Amelia Wishart is sent to the workhouse, owned by Mr Creeper, not knowing that she is the key to Father Christmas being able to complete his Christmas deliveries! With the help of struggling writer, Charles Dickens, Father Christmas is able to save Amelia, finish his deliveries and bags himself a wife too.
I loved the audiobook, narrated by Carey Mulligan.

An entertaining follow up to A Boy Called Christmas. Amelia Wishart is the only reason Father Christmas was able to access enough magic to stop time and deliver presents to children around the world a year ago. Now, Amelia could use some magic of her own. Her mother is ill and Mr. Creeper is eager to put Amelia into his workhouse, a place more bleak and dire than even Charles Dickens would have you believe. Father Christmas wants to help but is thwarted by an inexplicable interference. Will he be too late to restore hope in Amelia? Another story by Haig that deals with terribly depressing situations and life-threatening events with clever humor, creative characters (humans, elves, trolls, and pixies!), and magical adventure. Good holiday fare for all ages.

I really enjoyed the first in this series, but this second book fell flat for me. I liked the overall premise, just not how it was executed. The secondary plot with the trolls was unnecessary and took away from the main plot while also getting a little lost along the way. I also don't think the explanation for the loss of Magic worked out fully. It started before Amelia had fully lost hope and continued after she got it back. I also didn't like the references to drinking in a middle grade book or the message of bullying, which all the characters engaged in, not just the villains. Still not a fan of Blitzen's bathroom habits or bathroom humor in general, even if it is in a children's book. I did like that we got to see the start of Mrs. Claus and the butter scene was enjoyable. I just which the plot had been more focused and the characters a better example in general.

I listened to this as an audiobook. I really liked the narrator and her voice definitely adds to the story.
Unfortunately, I thought that the sweetness of the story was distracted by all of the potty humor and even violent humor.
I did enjoy how Santa met his wife and the way Hope saved Christmas.
