One day, while getting ready to go somewhere for an extended time, I decided to find an Audible book to entertain me. It needed to run six hours or less and I didn't want a downer day so not too serious. Cosmic Banditos was in my free library and it is outrageous and entertaining and humorous. Definitely for people who like quirky books and can be amused by someone making bad choices, getting involved at a way high (no pun intended) level in drug dealing and living in the middle of nowhere in Columbia with a dog with a personality. In the course of his isolation, he gets to read complex philosophical books that had belonged to a victim of a robbery by his good friend. Quark, our narrator, gets caught up in wondering about the man who owned these books and his teenaged daughter's apparent lack of faithfulness to a couple of men she wrote post cards to. Ultimately, we traverse parts of Central America, Mexico and the US in a bizarre plan to handle large quantities of marijuana and to pursue this obsession with the robbery victims. And it all is nonsense that makes sense all together. Along the way, Quark and his sidekick seek to educate others on what he's learned about metaphysical issues. Because I listened to audio, it's hard to remember names and so forth but a lot of fun.

A hilarious ride through drugs, banditos, and friendship. A.C. Weisbecker manages to make a story full of tangents run smoothly and quickly with constant humor and entertainment.
The back-story of the author's disappearance and the book's cult following made book that much more interesting to read. Nothing i can really relate to, but very well written and humorous and and enjoyably quick read. I quite enjoyed it. Not the best book and not the book for everyone, but i can certainly see how it gained the cult following it has. I would definitely read it again on a lark or pass it off to friends i think would appreciate its outrageousness.
This book is.... certainly another example of something.
Feels like a choose-your-own-adventure where the person choosing is a) not you and b) hilariously intoxicated on a molotov cockatil's worth of drugs and tequila. Also, you learn some theories of quantum physics.
I read this book so I could share the cultural marker with my sisters, which probably contributed to how I felt about it dragging on for the first three quarters of the book, but when the narration of the past finally caught up to the present (or the narration of the present slowed down, either one), things got very exciting very quickly.
Life is but a dream?

It's a light fun romp, the physics angle is amusing, but it felt a bit dated.

When people ask me for book suggestions, this book is on my short list of easy suggestions. I continually am amazed that it's not more well known, as this book seems perfect to be a cult hit. Hilarious and well enough written to be a quick read, I've yet to find someone who didn't enjoy it after I gave it to them (I think I've gone through about 3 copies despite having only read it once, just because I let people borrow it so often.)
