Oh my goodness I enjoyed this book far more than o thought I was going to. I am guilty for lumping in Joe Hill with Stephen King but but I shouldn't have! Same genre but I put down Heart Shaped Box in a day or two! The audio book was great. I wasn't fond of the name narrator's "female," voice but the way he read the radio commercials and dead man's email was nothing short of amazing! Gave me goosebumps and several times through the narration, I had to stop to ask myself- what in the world is happening

Another skin-crawling tale expertly woven by Joe Hill. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, not because of his ability to scare the ever livin bejesus outta me, but because his novels are so much more than typical scary stories. There is a level of depth within the pages that once you're good and comfortable--even if that comfort comes in the form of near constant terror--he flips the script and the story becomes something wholly different. This is a must read for fans of Stephen King and Joe Hill alike. I, for one, loved every second.

this book was a series of ups and downs. at some parts, i was hooked, unable to stop reading; at others, it was a chore to keep going. while i enjoyed the dedication to detail, the book felt too long somehow, though i don’t know what would’ve been cut. i do think the author did a decent job tying up loose ends at the conclusion of the book.
i found jude hard to root for at times, and i didn’t care one way or another what happened to him. i rooted for marybeth solely because i wanted her to be happy. everything else was sort of a crapshoot. there were a few poignant moments, and i enjoyed the moments where marybeth and jude actually were talking about their feelings—you can see the traces of genuine connection and affection for one another. the characters were given stories intended to give them depth but the stories did not really show beyond when they were mentioned. overall, 3.5/5.

This is my first Joe Hill book and OMG he is an amazing author!! @JoeHill you have a new fan! I look forward to so much more from him. I can see that he has some influence from his father but also has his own style, and he is an excellent author in his own right. This was a great book to read for Halloween. I read/listened this in one day because I could not put it down. I don’t even know how to put into words what I read or how I felt…

Jude and Georgia are two lost souls due to their sordid pasts. They are running from a ghost that is trying to kill them. The story is full of suspense and thrills. The imagery could not have been any better. I can still see the ghost tipping his hat at me from the chair in the hall. The female characters seemed a little simple-minded which made them frustrating at times, but I think that was intentional. I appreciated the growth and character development of both Jude and Georgia. The audio was SO entertaining. The narrator did a fantastic job! My favorite parts were when he was reading the email from the dead man and everything that played on the radio. It was so seamless, I’d find myself saying “did I just hear that right?”-I would have to pause and rewind to make sure I did. Highly, Highly recommend!-
