i watched the YYH anime a long ways back (only through the Dark Tournament arc) and i'm glad that i decided to read the manga. the extra chapter at the end of this volume was a treat. similarly, it comes as no surprise that the anime took liberties by expanding on the fight scenes, adapting Togashi's chapter pacing to episode pacing. i'd be curious to see, since they've announced the One Piece anime (remaster) -- and a few years back when DBZ got (remastered) -- if they'd consider tackling YYH as well.

Damn, this was fun! The fights were thrilling and entertaining, the characters were badass and fun, and it was just overall super enjoyable! Also, the bonus story at the end was interesting and featured my favorite boys!

Don't have anything else to say really, looking forward to the finale of the Ichigaki fight so we can be introduced to two of my fave side characters in this series!

In addition to revealing how Kurama and Hiei met as a bonus story at the end, this ends the first round for Team Urameshi, and the fights are great, but they come at a cost to (mostly) Hiei and Yusuke. Onto the second round, where we finally see who the masked fifth fighter is! *wink*

Not quite sure why but I had more of a fun time with this volume than some of the previous ones. Maybe because we're in pure tournament mode that my adrenaline's pumping.
  1. Knife-edge death match- to fight within a close area, we place two knives into the ground, press our heels into the blade, square up and go. Is this a real thing? It seems so specific that I would almost believe people actually do this...
  2. Hiei's number one in the character ranking.
  3. Hiei fucked up his arm for the team...Don't worry. Once I pick a side, I stick to it. Huh...Kurama's (aka Kurapika aka Shuichi Minamino aka my favorite), but I could see myself being swayed.
  4. Hiei and Kurama backstory- how these two met only about a year or so ago.
