Better. Mostly because revisiting the point just before Bruce Wayne becomes Batman has a lot of room to play without actually changing the story. The art seems a bit wrong. And Alfred seems a little off. But all in all, pretty good. I could have used without the Red Hood Gang... 3.5 of 5.

Dabbling into Snyder's early Batman days. Loved it!!! What a run!

I enjoyed this Batman origin story. It's not my all time favorite, but it's a solid new take. I like the idea of Bruce testing the waters of vigilante-dom in street clothes before he becomes Batman.

Enjoyable, but it was kind of jarring to take a big leap backwards in the timeline after the previous story arcs. Overall it measures up to the quality you'd expect from Snyder, but doesn't blow you away like I've come to expect from anything Snyder-realted.

Best in this series so far! Took me a few pages to get the concept of Zero Year, but I loved it! From the colors, to the story, to the flashbacks, to the characters.

Four and a a half. Snyder rarely puts out a clunker. The Red Mask storyline and the addition of betrayal by Bruce's uncle are great here. Points for the combative Alfred relationship. As for the pictures, I love Capello anyway, and the vibrant inks are everything Frank Miller's gritty, dirty Year One wasn't. Alberquerque's art in short two page origin tales are an added bonus.
