This is an origin story squeezed in between all the other origin stories - Bruce is back from the dead but hasn't gone out in public yet. Surely the poor thing deserves a bit of a break? In this one his nose swells to about three times the size after a particularly bad beating and...I just felt really sorry for him throughout the whole thing. Red Hood looks daft too, that helmet can't be practical or easy to hide.

I think this is a great issue and the fact that it paid homage to the earlier iterations in a new way was good.

A good retelling of the origin story, and a nice introduction to the joker. Just a little watered down, I felt like the characters were not very 3-dimensional. Their motives didn't really make sense to me.

One of the best Batman stories. It shows the beginning of Batman in a different tone than Batman Year One.
Snyder & Capullo are some of my favourite comics creators.

Coming off a fantastic set of stories (especially death in the family), I was worried about the direction they would go. Going with another retelling of the origin/early days was the right choice
+the two part opener are so different and wild is a great setup
+origins are always fun
++Alfred&Bruce disagreement
+empty question mark
++this story knows when to rely on heavy dialogue and then when to let the panels talk
-become a bat is a wee bit cheesy for me
+the speech
+nice ending to wrap up the current arc and looking to dive deep in the next
-/+super big style change for the last mini stories in the last issue. Seems a bit out of place and I’m not sure readers needed the extra explanation for what Bruce was doing, but maybe that’s just me

This one might be my favorite yet, honestly. And that's really saying something, considering how fantastic the last one was. There's just something about this one. I wasn't even looking forward to reading another origin story but this one just felt so...alive! The dialogue, the plot, the colors! It was perfect. I'm getting addicted to this series and running out of books to read; I wish graphic novels didn't go by so fast!
