I think I would have given this book a higher rating had I not read the back cover (which is the same as the blurb in the description here on StoryGraph). I felt like I spent the entire book waiting for Abby's "chilling plan," which doesn't happen until the last 50 pages or so.

Otherwise, this book is right up my alley! I knew from the first diarrhea conversation that I would love it. The comparison between Laura and Abby is beautiful, and it's something I'll continue to dissect even as I've finished the book.

Gorgeously written book, all metaphors and deviations and descriptions fully immerse you in the story and feel necessary and atmosphere building. Nothing seems pointless. I love the tension built and the realism of the main character.

UMMMMM THIS WAS.....SOMETHING!!!! Definitely not what I expected. The writing was stellar but also very harsh in a way that I appreciated, sometimes even funny. Like, VERY funny. I loved how unhinged these characters were. Our main character just descends into chaos after page one and every minute of it was pretty fascinating for me to read. However, I struggle to know where to put this book in my head because it WAS so deeply strange and not really what I thought it was going to be, so that is a bit of a let down. Still, I'm glad that I read it.
