maybe 4.5?

at first the writing style seemed a bit amateur with the run-on and incomplete sentences filled with British slang. it’s written in 1st POV so it worked enough to keep me engaged, though some acronyms and words left me confused and feeling aged. i soon came to realize though that the writing style was key in showcasing the neurotic unreliability of the MC, Irina. it helped you see firsthand how little control she really had over herself and by the end of the book i found myself craving more of her perspective.

the twist definitely got me too in terms of what the title “Boy Parts” is really referring to. had my jaw dropped.

i think i kind of prefer the unhinged, unlikable main characters, like Irina, over the cookie-cutter types so this book is a clear winner in my opinion.

Manic pixie girl but not romanticized. Good down to earth read

Boring until like the last 10 pages

I feel like I need therapy after reading this

As much as I hated the characters (as people) I thought this book was a lot of fun. Books that feature a psychopathic/sociopathic female main character have been getting more popular and I'm SO excited about it. I was kind of confused throughout by how Irina managed to charm everyone despite being outright cruel to them, but a) I don't think people ever assume a woman is a sociopath and b) beauty will get you a lot in life. Irina reminds me a lot of Maeve Fly (from the book by C J Leede) - their taste for violent porn, the way they see their "friends" as tools, their choosing of dates/victims based on how foolish/pathetic they were (ie. nice and lovely in actuality).

I think it's so fascinating to read about an evil woman so I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good thriller - but only if you don't mind sexual violence or body horror in novels. You'll also need to learn some British slang too. It felt like I was trying to read a different language at times because I knew barely any of them.
