Writing: standard Heinlein. Good. Keeps you in the story.

Plot/character: likable enough characters with good characterization, especially of Hoag and Cynthia, but you read it because of the plot.

Profundity: eh. Mainly I like it because it makes you think of the joys and flavors of life…that they should be savored.

Questo romanzo breve è difficile da collocare in un genere specifico, perché ne racchiude diversi contemporaneamente: e purtroppo non posso dire nulla della trama, altrimenti vi rovinerei i colpi di scena della storia. Una coppia viene ingaggiata da uno strano tipo che chiede loro di seguirlo, perché non ricorda nulla di quello che fa durante il giorno e si ritrova con delle misteriose macchie sotto le unghie. La coppia di detective inizia a pedinarlo e scoprirà ben presto inquietanti personaggi.

Heinlein è sempre top, su questo non avevo dubbi. Forse tra i suoi lavori più onirici.

Twas p good for a short quick read. The ending wasn't quite what I wanted though things went unexplained or explained away in a way that left me a bit confused but getting the general idea perhaps a closer more thoughtful read would allow the corners of this story to make sence but I just didn't quite get it. Still enjoyable!

Robert A. Heinlein had an astonishing talent when it came to building dialogue. Even his weaker offerings - such as "To Sail Beyond the Sunset" - feature funny, quick and witty "exchanges", and that's what I like the most about this author. As far as this anthology is concerned, it's kind of a small box of jewels, with "The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag" and "And He Built a Crooked House" being some of the best short fiction I've ever stumbled upon.
