It is so refreshing and heartening to read a book that says good things about people and places.
I love Canada and I love Mike Myers so naturally, I loved this book. It is a love story about this wonderful country. Mike talks about growing up in Scarberia during the era of Trudeau père. He starts off talking about the great promise of that time and ends with looking hopefully to the future with Trudeau fils as our PM.
He talks about truly Canadian things like the CNE, the Toronto Maple Leafs and hockey cards. This is a wonderful book full of humour and Canadian pride. All Canadians should read this book.

I really liked this audiobook, although Mike Meyers sounds very different when talking as just himself! Toward the end he started using some voices that I recognized. My favorite part of the book was learning about Canada and how it has shaped some of Meyers' characters and movies. It was a bit disjointed at times however, as he would jump from a history lesson of Canada into a personal moment in his life. However, overall I really enjoyed listening to this.

Loved this book! Mike Myers' love for his Canada shines through numerous observations, comparisons, and a sprinkling of history and politics. Both educational and funny, this often reads like an autobiography. Growing up in metro Detroit, we always received Windsor stations and so I agreed with his interpretive memories of Mr. Dress Up and The Friendly Giant.
This was a mix of memoir and Canadian history. I would have appreciated more memoir aspects to it.

3.5 stars - although I'm tempted to give it a full five just because of sheer Canadian-ness. Mike Myers' literary love letter to Canada is heartfelt and funny. It's pretty specific to a certain time and place; namely, Scarborough in the 1960's and 70's, but loses none of its charm because of this. It's a little bit of a memoir, a little bit of history, and a little bit of comedy.
Myers recollects growing up in Canada, memories of Canadian experiences and uniquely Canadian memoriabilia, but mostly, reflects on just what it means to be Canadian. It's a fun read, and while some of the "Canadian-isms" were over my head (like I said, specific time and place,) I also chuckled and nodded along with familiarity as well.
He clearly states in the foreword that he is fully aware of Canada's flaws (and shameful history with First Nations) but says that those serious matters should be left to more serious treatment. It's a book about his relationship with Canada, which differs, of course, from others'. This book is enjoyable and full of warmth. True to form, it's also very Canadian; self-deprecating, polite, friendly and with more depth than you expect.

I. AM. CANADIAN!
I'm proud of this fact, and Mike Myers' words resonated with me. He may be a generation ahead, but it rings true even today!
Thank you.
