I loved this book. It reminded me of the importance of compassion and understanding, and it was beautiful to see how Gulwali’s perspective on other people changed throughout his journey, but he was still able to keep his faith. It was also a harrowing story and I think everyone who might not understand immigrants or their reasons for leaving, or the issues with the system in place currently, should read it.
An amazing true story filled with hope and faith. All the time I was reading this, I kept thinking of my own son, who recently turned 13, the internal torment his mother must have gone through, it makes me teary imaging my own son having to endure that. His survival, the length of time it took, the determination, the living conditions, I just, wow. I remember seeing on the news the images of the refugees at that time, news should have showed more stories like this. If you haven't read it yet, put it on your must read books list.
To begin to grasp the plight of a refugee, especially a refugee child, read The Lightless Sky. Gulwali's story kept me coming back day after day to see what he would have to overcome next.
Humans are greedy (not talking about the protagonist of course)
