When I was looking for books that really called to me for the #transrightsreadathon, Tainted stood out to me. I was a little worried that this book would be filled with too much pain for me. I’m aware life is not only sunshine and joy; but, as books are a fantastic means of escape, depressing books aren’t my go to. I was so happy to see the joy shine through. Once Dean’s hard shell starts cracking his inner light starts to blind the reader. He is intensely strong.
I LOVED these MCs, grumpy/sunshine doesn’t even scratch the surface as far as descriptions go. Dean is so filled with pain, anxiety, and self loathing; it’s no wonder he was a little grumpy. Meanwhile Taylor is endlessly understanding, accepting, and willing to see good. It was heartwarming.
Seeing trans joy is so important when we live in such a bleak and pain-filled world. This book highlights that everyone is worthy of respect, love, and being happy.
Graphic: Dysphoria and Transphobia
Moderate: Alcohol and Panic attacks/disorders
Minor: Religious bigotry, Rape, Suicidal thoughts, Domestic abuse, Violence, Suicide, Sexual assault, Pregnancy, and Murder
