Rick Riordian is a genius.
This book is a very special one. So well researched. The Indian references are so on point. This one’s going to be close to my heart because of the Indian connection.
Ana Dakkar is such an amazing leading lady in what is an epic saga of adventure, intrigue, family drama and the burden of an overwhelming legacy.
The twist in the book hit me like a sucker punch to the gut and knocked my socks off.
I’ve always been fascinated by oceans. This book made me want to take scuba diving lessons. Maybe I will.
The characters are well fleshed out and are inclusive without forced diversity. The presence of an autistic character just elevates this book to another level.
Being inspired by Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and The Mysterious Island, it pays a fitting homage to the brilliance of Verne.
A true experience, for sure, this volume. The ending is the most beautiful one I’ve read in a while. My heart was heavy and my eyes filled with tears.

Ooookay y'all, this one was great. It's vastly different than everything else we've seen from Uncle Rick thus far. Daughter of the Deep is a lot more SF than anything else, with minor steampunk elements, but don't let the steampunk throw you off. The protagonist is not an engineer and her friends in the background are the ones working with the technology.
Ana herself is a languages specialist with an affinity for animals and I *really* enjoyed both aspects of her personality. Also? This book showcases a lot of different types of strengths through the boarding school's house system. Ana is a Dolphin, aka the navigators and diplomats. Her friends are from all of the other houses (Orca - healers, Shark - weapons specialists, & Cephalopod - engineers) and they all get showcased accordingly. It was very refreshing to see a house system that wasn't based in fantasy/magic, that's for sure.
Another aspect of this book that y'all should know about is that there's NO ROMANCE. What a relief. Here are my last two important thoughts about this book: I unexpectedly loved Gemini Twain and his penchant for rubber bullets instead of real ones; and I loved that Uncle Rick didn't hesitate to discuss Ana's debilitating period cramps. It's about time we normalized the human body.
Anyways this book is wild and very fun. Definitely give it a shot.
