This book is going to make me feel uncomfortable for days - when I finished reading it (in a cafe which might not have been the best choice) i felt like I had witnessed something awful that no one else had.
But that's why Yanagihara is such an incredible author, she is one of the few authors who creates really compelling flawed characters that you feel awful for finding interesting, and does it in a way that still takes you by surprise when they do something awful

The start of the book was hard, at first I didn’t think I wanted to read about this horrible man, but the writing is at times beautiful and compelling. Also at the end, I skimmed some passages as I just wanted the book to end and not be in the head of the narrator
