SPOILER:!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book delves into the complexities of love, friendship, and self-discovery. Quindlen has the focus of the book be on the relationship between Hannah and Baker, and while their connection is undeniable, I couldn't help but feel frustrated by it as well.
As the story unfolds, and without giving too much away, the ending felt somewhat predictable to me. It left me wishing for a different outcome, one where Hannah could find someone who truly deserved her. Baker's character, in particular, didn't sit well with me, and I found myself longing for Hannah to find happiness with someone who treated her with the love and respect she deserved.
That being said, Quindlen's writing is undeniably powerful, and she tackles difficult topics with sensitivity and depth. The emotions portrayed throughout the book are raw and real.
If you're prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions and don't mind a somewhat bittersweet ending, then this book is definitely worth checking out.
Graphic: Homophobia, Sexual content
While the ending was cute, I felt like it was a bit rushed and a little forced.
4.2 stars, it's what this book deserves. By the end, I was feeling wholesome despite the multiple crashes I faced while reading; yes I made it out alive and happy, just like Hannah.
While I won't exactly agree with Hannah and Baker having a inspiring romance, the journey and development on both parts was unique. The religious environment/upbringing that prevented them from accepting their feelings without praying for respite, the homophobic social peers, and personal qualms over the decisions they make and even think about making, all were the factors that brought this beautiful story to life.
