5 stars. This hurt. I cried a lot while reading it and I absolutely loved it. I also never want to read this book ever again because ouch. It had me way too tense but it was beautiful. Gorgeous writing with a raw and honest look at sexuality and religion. This had me hooked even when it got tough to read.

I loved Hannah and Baker. They are both so flawed and felt real (all of the characters did) and they have such a tumultuous love story and it was stressful but the ending was beautiful and more than worth all of the pain. This book deserves all of the praise I’ve heard about it over the years and then some. I’m so glad that I finally read it because it’s one that surpassed the hype for me and I would definitely recommend it. One of the best YA contemporary novels I’ve read in a very long time.

this might be a new fav book for me! The religious trauma in this book is absolutely heartbreaking, but I love how the mcs did not give up their own faith in god and showed that despite what a lot of people say, homosexuality and faith is compatible! The quotes and writing in this book - argh! I felt like I was tearing up throughout the entire book and I also might have cried a little bit... This friendship group both infuriated me and made me believe in found family and friendship. Sure Hannah made some mistakes but omg she got treated badly as well. All (well not all but the important ones) the characters in this book deserve so much better!!

I just wish thee narration was clearer, sometimes we got something like an omnipresent narrator and then it was first person narrative and that made it pretty confusing to follow.

"Do you ever think about how crazy that is?—Our miraculous capacity to love? We don't know why, we don’t know how, but our hearts and souls are drawn to others. We weren’t made to be alone. We were made to love"

gay girls with religious trauma rise up! :’)

Literally binged in one day and loved every heart wrenching minute of it. This hits close to home as a person that grew up a confused queer Catholic kid so there was a lot of crying throughout, and it really wonderfully captured all the fear and shame of realizing your queer and the self-destruction you sometimes bring on yourself/others.

ouch.
