Bought this for a long day of travel because I liked she drives me crazy and wanted some fluff for the flights.

This book made me very sad.

It’s not very elegantly written and takes itself way too seriously at some points but the depictions of internalized homophobia were honestly gut wrenching. I grew up very religious (not Catholic and very welcoming to people of all backgrounds) in a rural part of the US where being gay was considered weird and uncool so growing up a bit and realizing I was bi was an eye opening experience about the views I carried in spite of being surrounded by positive gay influences throughout my life. In that way the story was very relatable but it was quite more extreme than any of my experiences obviously.

Overall 3.8/5: I found the characters to be quite real and the story to be quite the page turner. Drawbacks are in the cliché dialogue and lack of descriptive writing. Only pick this up if you’re ready to cry.

Such a heartbreaking and sweet story. Enjoyed reading this book a lot. Loved the teacher in this story made me tear up

made me want to kay em ess but in a good way.

I am not a religious person but I grew up in a very conservative Christian town. Spirituality and faith can be very positive and comforting. It’s when religion is used to exclude or marginalize certain groups of people that it becomes a problem. I was always very frustrated by the way the LGBTQ community was perceived and treated by the large majority of the city’s citizens. This would be a good book for many of the Christian members to read to gain some insight into the struggles of identifying as LGBTQ. I’m so glad to have moved to a very progressive and open minded city in another state. It’s not perfect but it is leaps and bounds more aware and accepting compared to where I grew up.

this book is art.
