I enjoyed learning more about Jenny's past (and Jackaby's for that matter), but not enough to overcome the inconsistencies in characterizations and unwieldy plot.
2.5 stars

Far from original or perfect like the other books in the series, but very quirky and enjoyable. I feel like faceoffs with the villain always end up the same in books in this genre, but I didn't really mind it because it was just casual entertainment. I liked that the plot is starting to revolve around characters I've grown to care about and like and that it's relating to everyone now instead of (seemingly) isolated supernatural cases.

Solidly fun edition to this series.

i love this series. actually, i am very attached to the characters in this series and it makes me deliriously happy that their journey will continue. highly recommended as a light read; especially for folks who enjoy funny mysteries with a science fiction fairy tale twist.

I read the first book in the series back when it was first released. I loved it but never got around to finishing the series. That is, until I had finally caught up on review copies for February and found myself looking for something new to read. There are so many books I could have chosen during this time – other series I have been meaning to finish, books that have been languishing on my shelves for over a decade. Yet, the Jackaby series is exactly what I needed at that point in time.

The series never takes itself too seriously. It is as raucous and bizarre as the synopsis indicates. At the same time, it is very much a story with heart. Jackaby is more than the odd detective with rare skills. He has a hidden soft side that you don’t really understand until the end of the second novel. Abigail has spunk, which is something you realize almost immediately but which never fails to impress throughout the series. Even better, every once in a while there would be a sentence so in keeping with some of the brouhaha in today’s society that I had to stop and marvel at its perfection. I found myself looking forward to these gems even as they continued to surprise me when I finally ran across one.

I went into reading these novels expecting silly fun with great characters and a good mystery. What I got out of them was so much more than that. They are reminders to love and accept one another in spite of or maybe even because of our differences. They are reminders to keep your mind and your heart open and to never fail to help someone in need. They are affirmations that we are more than the boundaries set by others and that we all deserve the chance to grow and shine. While still quirky and highly entertaining, they are also inspiring. Honestly, you cannot get much better than that.

My brick. My house. My whole wide world.

Ghostly Echoes is by far the best Jackaby novel yet. Jenny Cavanaugh, the ghostly landlord of 926 Auger Lane, is finally ready to face her murder. Jackaby and Rook are on the case. After a new murder, that looks eerily similar to Jenny's, they discover they're no longer on a cold trail.

I love everything about this book. R.F. Jackaby is easily one of my favorite characters. He's whimsical and aloof, in the best ways possible. In this installment, Jackaby's 'seer' ability is explained further. We were given a lot more than before, yet there are still a lot of little details unknown that make him uniquely Jackaby. At lot was hinted about his past and I, for one, am keen to learn his history.

One of the reasons I adore this book, was the fleshing out of the characters. Ironically, one fleshing out I was excited for was our ghostly lady, Jenny. I had wondered in the past books what her story was. Although, I was afraid that finding out would mean the end of her presence. I'm glad that wasn't the case. Jenny is sweet and kind, a perfect house mate for the likes of Jackaby. In this book, she became a fierce force to be reckoned with. Ritter has such a way with writing strong personalities whose courage is mirrored by their kindness, Jenny is a perfect example of that.

This series has quickly became one of my forever favorites and each book just gets better. Even though I am quite sad the next book will be the last, I am none the less excited to dive back into this fantastic world and spend time with some of my favorite people.

WOW! This was amazing!! Even better than the first two. I absolutely loved investigating Jenny's murder and all of the craziness that came with it. Not only is Jenny ready to find out about her past, but it's happening again. Prominent scientists are being killed and spouses are going missing.

This explained so much of Jackaby's overall story and I fell in love with it. I want to know more about Jackaby-- scratch that, I want to know EVERYTHING! We got a peak into his childhood and I was just so stoked and amazed. Jenny also gets more of a character arc in this and she was amazing! Absolutely fabulous.

There was a small part in the beginning where I was kind of confused because I thought everything had been solved, but it really was only a small portion of the truth. There is such a huge plot happening here and I loved it. Plus we get to learn more about ghosts, the underworld and all of that stuff.
Charon got a featured role in this and omg I loved him!! Plus, a glimpse of Hades *swoon*.
