Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! There are no words. I loved it. LOVED

(4th re-read, August 2016)
they've all gone through so much. percy and annabeth have been suffering through all this since they were twelve. TWELVE. that shatters my tiny little heart. i feel so much for all seven (eight, nine, really) of these dweebs.
INSANE AMOUNT OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
HAZEL IS SUCH A BADASS. FRANK IS SUCH A BADASS BUT ALSO A TEDDY BEAR. I JUST WANT TO HUG BOTH OF THEM. ALL OF THE SEVEN ACTUALLY.
everyone grows into themselves, finds their place. leo. i will never not love leo. his character is so complex and flawed that it's flawless.
nico. poor kid. i still stand by my initial thoughts, all the way back in 2013, though. if it (aka stuff with cupid) was meant to be this huge realization, it should have had more foreshadowing. it seems like rick just threw it in there. which is good. but story wise, not as good as it could've been (i'm holding uncle rick to the highest possible standards here- it was still done well, just out of nowhere, as if he made it up on the spot. the brief hints in the jason chapter right before helped slightly but not enough).
however, i love what this brings to nico and his character. it does explain some things, and it just seems right (but maybe that's just because of how much i adore solangelo now).
did i mention how much i adore hazel and frank? I ADORE HAZEL AND FRANK. THEY ARE SUCH. PHENOMENAL. CHARACTERS. seriously. all the blessing of ares stuff, the praetor rank, just everything..FRANK PLEASE. YOU'RE KILLING ME HERE. YOU ARE TOO GOOD FOR THIS WORLD!???!!!
and hazel. hazel hazel hazel. you are unbelievable, as always. you are sO InCreDIBLY POWERFUL. my poor heart. cannot handle your character development.
and leo again. and percabeth. god(s), i love their relationship. they hold each other together but still hold their own, you know? they are my only OTP. my favourite literary couple. their entire tartarus journey was heart wrenching and exciting. they work together so well, and it was amazing (and terrifying and heart breaking) to read all their adventures/toils through the pit. probably my favourite part of this book? actually no. THERE ARE TOO MANY GREAT PARTS. i love love LOVE when frank is bumped to praetor, and how that entire scene is done. and the climax with pasiphae and the giant. hazel manipulating the mist and everything...i feel like a proud mother. and all the scenes with bob and damasen that just made me want to burst into tears (this whole world and mythology is so cruel. it's honestly horrible. there is this inherent goofiness to both PJO and HOO, but hidden just behind is all this real shit. like...fuck dude. it's so unfair and just despicable...but thought provoking. rick riordan, you're a genius. except for BoO. what happened!???!! i need to stop thinking about that book. THIS IS ABOUT HOUSE OF HADES, ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME.)
you know what else i loved? piper and khione. not as much as i loved the eros/nico/jason scene though. it revealed SO MUCH about both jason and nico. love it A LOT. the jason/nico relationship is tense but extremely interesting.
and leo with the dwarfs in the beginning. TOP NOTCH. hazel and hecate. AMAZING. frank in venice? EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED.
and reyna. such a powerful character. i dont have as much to say about her, but i love her. incredible.
also DARK PERCY DARK PERCY DARK PERCY. makes me want to scream. he is so pained and bitter and it's completely justified but still so difficult to read about. i love this fictional character so much. i've been with him since we were both 12 (actually i was 11 but shhh) and his journey and development and darkness make me so goddamn emotional.
annabeth shines so much in this book. she already had her time in MoA but she deserves ALL THE TIME. she's that good. one of my favourite aspects of her character shows up both here and in MoA and BotL - where she starts defying and talking back even after something is technically won/okay because of her beliefs and her intelligence (and her belief IN intelligence, like with the sphinx back in BotL), just instinctually. here it was with damasen, where she knows he has to come with them. in MoA it was after she trapped Arachne but continued to berate her and explain, and in BotL it was with the sphinx. it's both a flaw and a great quality. I LOVE ANNABETH SO MUCH.
and caleo. i still really like it, at least in this book. i think leo and calypso balance each other out and they work together well. also i just adore leo in general...ALL THESE CHARACTERS ARE SO SO SO SO GOOD.
enough gushing...and rambling...
this is why HoH might be my favourite book on HoO...tied with MoA but a tiny bit ahead??? i mean it had the tartarus journey. which was action-packed and the most suspenseful, emotional part of this book (probably? like i said, there is just way too much in this book that i love). but even with a monster at every corner, it was mostly character driven? in a way.
percy and annabeth. they've come so far. I JUST WANT THEM TO LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK!? as much as i look forward to seeing them in the apollo and magnus series', i also want them to stay away from the crazy danger and lead peaceful lives. they deserve it so so much.
is it weird to say that i feel privileged for having read their journey? probably. but i do.they just mean so much to me, as do all of the seven.
also, piper and jason don't deserve ANY flack (despite what even i must admit is an inordinate number of knock outs for one all-powerful demigod...cough jason cough).
piper is such a warrior that i can't even handle it. jason really finds his place in HoH, and it's so satisfying.
anyway.............i love this series to death. this book in particular. (and MoA..but HoH)

WHAT DOES RICK PUT IN THIS STUFF?! This book was phenomenal! The best in the series for sure!! I cant express how could this book was without going into a full on rant, so here are some of my favourite things about the House of Hades:
~ Friendships - the 7 banded together in MoA, but it really felt like they became friends in this book. Piper and Hazel help each other out and Frank and Leo overcome the tension between them through such a wholesome moment. And Percy and Annabeth’s unlikely friendships in Tartarus? Ripped my heart out. So wholesome.
~ The Character Development - so much character development in HoH! I really feel like I connected with the characters even more because of how complex they became. Frank owning his power?! One of my fav scenes! Nico facing the inner conflict that’s been keeping him hidden away from everyone? Such an important moment! All the characters just focused a lot on themselves and overcoming their fears and difficulties.
~ Percabeth Moments - percy and annabeth falling into Tartarus is definitely not something to be happy about, I couldn’t get over the excitement of getting more percabeth scenes. And going through what they did brought them so much closer together
~ Plot - I found this book to contain the most complex plot out of the four. It had several things going on. Percy and Annabeth in tartarus, Nico and the others travelling to the House of Hades, and Reyna on her journey to meet them and retrieve something. Really kept me hooked!

As you can see, I loved this book, and everyone MUST read it!

While still good, this may be the one I’ve liked the least in the series. There were parts I really enjoyed (Tartarus, our man Leo getting his own story, Nico coming to terms with who he is) but for most of it, I felt like it was a bunch of scenes that didn’t really go together. I wish we would have been able to spend more time in Tartarus and also more time with Leo. I think the best plot lines got cut short because of everything else that was going on that really didn’t need to go on… also, I still don’t understand the point of farting Gale??

I really enjoyed this one. Percy and Annabeth facing their challenges together reminded me of the original Percy Jackson books(: the ending made me teary eyed.
