I think Emily has turned me into a bigger dark romance reader than I ever thought because I have seen so many people mentioning this is her darkest book yet but it didn’t seem any different then the others. With that said, I absolutely devoured this book! From the very beginning of the book I was completely addicted. The Hunchback is not a story I am familiar with and I wasn’t sure how I would feel as a Catholic myself reading it. But surprisingly it didn’t bother me and I fell in love with Father Cade.
My favorite part of the story was the sexual tension buildup. I love a good slow burn but it is 500x better when there is some teasing and boy did Emily bring it. I am not sure how Amaya or Cade were able to keep their hands off each other at times!
Father Cade is the definition of anti-hero. He may think he is dedicated to God but deep down he has a lot of unholy behaviors. He enjoys un-aliving people more than he should. And he causes himself physical harm when he feels attracted to our lovely Amaya. But his positive qualities involve how much he adores Amaya and would do anything for her & the way he connects with her brother. Amaya is the guardian for her brother and trying to pay off debt her mother left her with by working at the strip club.
The story was well told. The way Emily uses words to describe a scene always blows my mind. The smut is insanely hot. Chefs kiss for the tension that will make you sweat.

This is my least favorite in this series, and I would have given it two stars but I have to admit that it entertained me enough that I didn’t want to put it down. So it gets a reluctant third star. Overall, it kind of gave me the ick, which is saying something because I do enjoy most of the installments in this series.

I feel like I shouldn't have enjoyed this book nearly as much as I did but I fucking loved it. I only wish there was more to it. More detail, make it 800 pages I don't care. The end felt a little rushed and like things wrapped up too easy. Which I get for this series bc they arent connected but fr she coud've made a two parter out of this book. Def not getting into heaven after reading this but tbf neither is Father Cade! Also I simply pretended he didn't commit the first murder cuz that was really fucked up and undeserved. The rest of his were warranted. (Oh and her going nuts at the end definetly didn't need to happen but whtvr we are all here soley for Cade anyway)

This was my first Emily McIntire book and I am so upset I waited this long to read her work. I am just happy I own all the Never After books already so that is what I will binge for the next few weeks. I am sorry, if you don't take trigger warnings seriously, I don't know what to tell you. Cade is just divine! Yes, bad guy and a little delulu but come on. The way he is in love with Amaya. The baptized line, OMG! I felt like the book could have tied up a loose end which is why I did not give it a 5 but I am just being picky. It's a great book!
