Second time reading and it's honestly one of my favourite books.

I feel like there was a missed opportunity to dive into a persons hyppcrital priest's psyche. I think this story is for ppl who were SA'd and are looking for healing. I think the idea of Cade doing what he does fpr Esmeralda is suppose to be comforting for those ppl who have no where to express their anger. However, the words dragged on. I was bored. Its amazinf how its so long and there was no substance. The characters are 2 dimensional. They are "half of each other" yet all I saw was their lust for one another. There were no deep conversations. The topic about religion and life and control was not spoken about.

this has to possibly be the worst of them all

Some of the language was really beautiful and some of it was so repetitive it made me angry.

Review: Okay Emily.. Really? You can’t get much more forbidden than a priest
(although the fact he is a serial killer and not exactly pious makes it a little easier to enjoy without feeling totally evil).
This story is very loosely based on the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I was heavily invested in the outcome although the ending was really far fetched. I finished in one sitting on a travel day from Switzerland to the US and was completely consumed by the book. The forced marriage with the town baddie, Amaya sacrificing herself for the sake of saving her brother, and the priest who would do anything to save her. Obsessed!

Favorite Quotes:

“He laughs but the sound is hollow. “And what do you know of obsession? You’ve been tormenting my mind since the very first moment I saw you.” A tear rolls down my cheek and I turn my face away. He releases my left hip, bringing his hand up to grip my jaw tightly, forcing me to look him in the eye. “Si seulement tu savais quel est mon amour pour toi. You consume me, Amaya. Break apart my faith with the fire of a thousand suns and dominate every nightmare until all I dream is you.”

“She may be your wife, but she is my soul,” I whisper against his ear. “And I will cut you up piece by piece and burn your empire until it’s soot, just so I can watch her be queen of the ashes.”

“Please, God,” he cries. Chuckling, I lean down. “I won’t tell you to seek absolution from my mythical figure tonight, Monsieur Errien. You see, I worship Her now…so it’s to Amaya that you should pray. May She have mercy on your soul.”
