SO GLAD I gave this book a second chance! It took a little getting into just like my first attempt to read it, but once I was in, I was

I have never been so delightfully perplexed, utterly disgusted, and completely and totally invested in a book ever. This book is hilariously funny and so very complex that it made my head spin. And this so tragically, beautifully, entirely sad all at the same time. Muir wrote such an original world with so much world building I feel like this needs a prequel or at minimum a reread to fully understand everything that occurred. Gideon is as of now one of top 5 favorite FMC ever written. But the universe is ending apparently and now it’s Harrow’s job is stop it I guess. I’m very excited for the next book.

This book reminded me a lot of Dune but with skeletons and lesbians instead of sand and worms.

This book is supposedly the most fun you’ll have with a skeleton but I’m not convinced. I forced myself through it, spent most of my time feeling so dumb because I had absolutely no clue what was going on. I kept going because I was promised an incredible epic ending but honestly by this point I had checked out because I was so CONFUSED. The one billion characters who all had multiple names also didn’t help.
There was lots to like about this book and I can see why it’s so popular. It’s unique, hilarious and a great representation for young queer people. The slow burn enemies to lovers was excellent and the ending was tragic. The epilogue did make me want to read the next book but I don’t think I can put myself through another month (or however long it would take me to read it) of this right away!

Read this with grace. I think the story is well written but took a while to get into. Necromacers aren’t necessarily my thing but I loved the end. 3.5!
