Definitely unnerving in a way I had to keep going. Interested in seeing how the show is and how the sequel is. ps there is so much sand in my copy now.

Creeping eldritch horror? Yeah, mostly, though that isn't the focus of the story.
Secret societies with unspeakable power? Check.
Solid horror story-telling? Check.
Serious discussion of representation of minorities in genre fiction, both directly and woven into the story? Check.
Written by a white guy...wait, what?
So, can a white guy write a horror story wherein the horror is based in black people's experiences in the United States? Well, he certainly can. But should he?

DID NOT FINISH: 39%

Each story after the last kept getting more uninteresting, but if I get the time I'm going to give it another go.

Like other reviewers, I liked the initial concept of using horror tropes to tell a story about the history of racism in America, but it lost me when it switched to a collection of short stories rather than continuing the narrative from the beginning. Felt super disjointed
