I've expected more of this book, or at least for it to have the Lovecraftian touch.

Let me start with the fact that this book is not a novel, it's more a collection of short stories, and it avoids this when reading it's blurb.
The stories themselves are good as a story, interesting, but the execution is below average. The beging of the book is just driving and telling how bad black people had it in the USA. The problem is that this is repetitive, a few encounters with the police and restaurants ending up in chase and life threats.

The biggest disappointment was the fact that the author tells, rather than shows, there isn't any atmosphere building, it doesn't tingle all your senses and it gives no description of the characters inner state (emotions, feeling and reactions), which is something I expect from a book, especially one that has Lovecraft's name in the title.

Three and a half stars, really. This book was a cross between a buddy adventure and a pulp horror novel. Fun to read, but it also shows an ugly slice of American history which was appalling to read. I don't understand why reviewers are describing this as interconnected short stories, since none of these chapters would stand alone, in my opinion.
