The only reason I'm not giving this book five stars is that it took me about a third of the book to figure out what was going on and to feel invested in the characters. Its a beautifully developed world, story, and characters that I look forward to revisiting as soon as I can get my hands on the next book.

This was so damn good. A little slow to start but so good. I loved all the characters but Shae. Her chapters were a little boring, although necessary. (Also her feeding info on the clans to the white people as her backstory? Bruh. Betrayal.) My favorite character by FAR was Hilo and I was literally sobbing when I thought he was walking into his death. Like… first Lan and now Hilo??
