I am torn on how I felt about this. On the one hand, I did like the narrative style and the story was very compelling. On the other, there were some implausible plot points that felt very out of the blue and convenient. It was a fast read and enjoyable overall, so I would say this is a 3.75 in my book.

Slow start but good. I'm glad I listened on audiobook. On the surface, Happiness Falls revolved around the disappearance of the father. On a deeper level, it's about family relationships and dynamics, personalities, theories of happiness, disability, assimilation, and communication.

Definitely engaging and I wanted to read on to find out what happened. Some interesting concepts to think about around happiness and communication but sometimes it felt a bit on the nose about trying to “teach” the reader. Also wish the ending was a bit more conclusive given the rest of the story.

I loved this book but it really went downhill at the end and felt like it didn’t have a clear direction. I loved the narrator a lot and would read something from that point of view again

I have a hard time DNF’ing a book - but man this book would’ve been it. It’s ENTIRELY too long for the minimal plot line - extremely redundant and boring a lot of the time…and then you don’t even know what really happened in the end. I’m thankful for audiobooks to get through this but I still barely listened and felt like I didn’t miss much.

Very interesting story and some good writing, but it dragged a bit. I rushed through the last fourth of the book.

Devastating, heartwarming, a little unusual. Complex characters and loving but flawed relationships. Slightly snarky narrator. Aka everything I look for in a work of fiction.
