This book was so damn sweet, if not slightly angsty.

Van's mom made my blood boil!!

Was fluffier than I expected. Started off very emotionally with the bullying and harassment that Shane suffered at the hands of Maxwell/Van and Jonathan. Like there was some serious shit going on there, so I felt that he would definitely hate Van when he came back.

I mean he did, but all it took was one yelling session and he was suddenly OK with being friends?

Wish that the hatred -> acceptance transition was longer.

Other than that, this was generally an ok read. The plot point about Shane being scared so he broke it off with Van felt unearned since they'd been so in love before that it seemed out of character for him to suddenly care that Van was the reason that Caleb had been sent away. (Maybe if it took more than just yelling at him to forgive him in the first place then it would've made sense)

The photography and art thing Van was doing also just kinda felt tacked on? It didn't really matter to the story other than being a way to spice up the sex scenes a little and have him do something in his spare time. Not a complaint, but the title being Depth of Field made me assume that photography or art would be a larger story beat.

Might be time to admit this author's work isn't my jam, and stop trying.

Enemies to lovers, yes please!

While this book is wickedly hot, it is also a swoony love story. Riley Hart has found my weakness (enemies to lovers) and exploited it mercilessly.

Depth of Field is sweet, sexy, and liquid heat. The fire will start as a warming sensation. It will tingle a little and slowly ignite a long burning flame. The longer it burns the hotter your blood will heat. Watch out for boiling and always have a form of "pressure" release, like a steam valve.

Good luck and try not to fall too hard; Avn and Shane are already taken.

I LOVE Riley Hart's books and this was another amazing one! The characters were fantastic. Real and easy to route for, I felt invested in them right away. It was steamy and hot, but it was also sweet and emotional. I felt like this book has it all and I didn't want to leave their world behind. Can't wait for more in this series and from Riley Hart!

4.5⭐️ -

Shane was such a kind soul. He was literally doing everything he could to make sure his mom had a good life even though he was sacrificing his own happiness.

Van/Maxwell - talk about character growth and not really ever knowing someone. His father was a real piece of shit. And the fact that his dad was still lying up to his death was disgusting.

Shane’s capacity for forgiveness was touching. He was a natural caregiver and wanted so much with Van in spite of their awful past. Van really came into his own and offered such kindness and support for Shane and his mom. I loved that he continued to ask for and work for Shane’s forgiveness.

Van was so open and offered that same openness for Shane. He never let Shane run away again. They really did compliment each other so well.

Second chances, enemies-to-lovers stories are some of my favorite stories out there. And this is no exception! Especially when the story is written by the amazing Riley Hart. The heat between Shane and Van made me want to fan myself several times, especially when Van whipped his

out!!!! Whoa, baby!! The complexity of this story, between Shane and Van's history, Shane's mother's illness, Van's secrets from the past, and how they dealt with their growing attraction made it such a compelling read.
