Ms. Gregory has written a layered and intricate plot. Davy and Kit trying to survive among pirates. Both of them trying not to let go of the values they have been taught but are now questioning. They both resist initially, but eventually understand the men who call themselves pirates and the lives they lead. On A Lee Shore, for me, read like a historical novel with the romance taking the sub-plot position.

Overall, it was an amazing adventure. Highly recommended.

Well I wasn't expecting to love this one as much as I did but Griffin and Kit just totally won me over.

It's got pirates, sexy pirates, what more than that is there!

But, to be fair, it also had a decent story line to hang the romance on and the author had a great handle on the historic elements of the background.

I'd have liked to have had a few more scenes with the two MCs but the secondary characters were a really interesting bunch too so it wasn't that much of a distraction it not being totally focussed on Griffin and Kit.

Loved the ending though and would happily read more about the wild adventures of these two on the ocean waves.

God, what a ride.
I feel like a need to lay down and cry a bit, for maybe a week. I absolutely loved this book, it left me with a full heart and I desperately miss all of the characters already. I thought it was more of an adventure story than a romance, even though the romance bit of it was perfect, lovely and joyful and gut-wrenching.
I adored Kit. I can't think of a character trope I love more than the quiet/shy main slowly revealing a more ruthless and capable side. He was clever and surprising and his chemistry with Griffin (who I loved with my whole heart despite the fact that I really wanted to smack him near the end) was off the charts and perfect.
The whole cast of side characters was wonderful, surprising and lovely, and it had that "found family" atmosphere that always manages to make me want to weep.
"On a Lee Shore" was lovely and funny and heart-warming and painful, at times, and the only thing I could have wished for was a longer ending and the chance to really appreciate the hard-won happy ending.
I'll definitely be re-reading it as soon as my heart recovers.

My, this was good! Very deeply researched, compelling story about Christopher Penrose - Kit a Royal Navy officer whose reputation is sullied because of a court martial, and a pirate, LaGriffe. This is adventure filled with action and numerous colorful secondary characters. Never a dull moment. I had one quibble - I love historical MM for the opportunity to view life from characters born hundreds of years ago and for the language. The turn of phrase used in historical romance allows me to sink deeper into the story. Unfortunately the language in this book wasn't as different as I would have expected a tale told from the high seas in the 1700s would be. Rather bland. All that aside, though, the action and the well told story kept me riveted. The suspense built and I could feel it as the Hypatia first sets sail. I could feel it when they first see the sails of the pirate ship. There are some confusing bits because there are multiple ships, two captains at one point and seemingly a billion pirates. But it was all worth it. Brilliant writing and great story.

I gulped this down with great enjoyment. A very enjoyable pirate tale. Well written and likeable characters. Kit's growth into someone able to have fun and stand by himself is very likeable. I felt Griffin stayed a bit too much of an enigma for too long and wondered if his POV would have helped.

The fighting ship details all sounded pretty good to this totally ignorant reader, though it wasn't overburdened with historical notes (which is fine because Patrick O'Brien already exists) - it was a bit of a fantasy pirate story but that's fine, the reality must have sucked. I felt that Griffin's secret as revealed in the last pages could have used a lot more exploring. (Again a bit of Griffin POV might have helped?) Recommended!
