slow-paced

I did not enjoy this one. Where to start, this felt like a complete deviation in plot and logic from books 1 and 2. The MC's were both exceptionally useless and annoying in this installment, and we spent about 80% of the book wandering about with no real impact on the main story. The ending was.....a choice and not one I understand. Thus, for me I am out. Sorry Shadows and Crowns but this is where we depart.

The plot thickens, as Casia and Elander's past unravels, and new alliances are forged.
The Gods and Demi-Gods are picking sides, and though small battles have already been fought, both sides are preparing for War.
Casia and Elander's love story is becoming sweeter, and their chemistry is off the charts! ;)

So this book was vaguely more interesting than the last two, in that the plot moved along slightly. Enough to keep me engaged.

I almost put it down because oh my DAYS the smut was terrible. Just awful, skimmed most of it, but read enough to eyeroll and regret that I picked up this series. It would have been a better book without the shitty smut (would have been an even better book with good smut, but I don’t love the style in which it’s written and I feel like good smut here is a pipe dream).

Which is a pity because the world and it’s rules and the quest has the potential to be *so good* and instead it’s just… kind of mediocre.

Also, the protector/possessor line instead of partner is just *pulls face* gross. It’s just gross and feeds into some awful misogynistic stereotypes. I don’t want a lady protagonist who can save the world, but still partakes in a patriarchy-heavy relationship. Just, blah.
