ANOTHER GOOD READ.
I am just highly enjoying this series!! Such a hidden gem that I can’t get enough of.
I read this book rather than listened and I think that made a difference in my rating. I thought it was a bit slower off the bat and that not as much happened in the overall plot. I was hoping for a bit more political intrigue and action, but that didn’t happen until the late second half.
What I did get a lot of was the roooomance! And I loved it! The spice was definitely stepped up a bit (which wasn’t my full cup of tea, but it’s cool). I love the progression and depth Elander and Casia with each other. They work together and build each other up and I love a supportive relationship like that. It’s always unique to see a fully formed couple before the series is even half over.
I can’t wait for the next read! I adore this entire cast and all of the close friendships. There’s some good movement here and I am thoroughly enjoying every moment.
Overall audience notes:
- NA Fantasy Romance
- Language: some strong
- Romance: three open door
- Violence: strong blood/gore
- Trigger/Content Warnings: physical and magical altercations, war themes and battles, near death experiences

The Call of the Void picks up right after the insane cliffhanger from A Twist of the Blade. S.M. Gaither has raised the bar in this book with even more action, political intrigue and heart stopping moments. I do not think there was ever a minute in this book where I thought any of the characters were safe.
Readers get to know more about Elander's character as we dive deeper into the world of the gods and goddesses. The gods and goddesses play an even larger in this book as they are now taking sides in the war between the mortal realm and the upper-god.
The world of Shadows and Crowns is expanded as Casia and her friends travel to the elven Court of Morath where they are met with even more secrets and betrayals.
Readers beware that this book is a bit darker than the first two books as Casia faces more difficult choices and trauma. Even with all of this Casia's character is just as fierce as she is in the first two books. Readers will be happy to see her and Elander's relationship further develop along with even more spice!
This book gripped me from the very beginning and I was sad to finish it because I need book 4 ASAP! Thankfully this book does not end in such a brutal cliffhanger because the last few chapters of this book will have you gasping and heart stopping. Overall The Call of the Void was a phenomenal sequel to the series and I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us.

(Make sure to read the two previous books in the series before reading this!)
Casia needs to find more allies in the war against her brother. She and her friends venture to the elven Court of Moreth. If she can persuade them to help she will have gained a strong ally, something that could turn things in their favour. But this isn't Casia's only problem. Now marked by the God of darkness and death she soon realizes that the dark magic within her is overpowering the light...
As usual, it's a true pleasure to read S M Gaither! Amazing characters and descriptions, events that either makes me hold my breath or makes me swoon. For the most part I don't know what's going to happen next or how much Gaither is going to put her characters through, and I love that! I'm also grateful that this book doesn't end in a cruel cliffhanger (like the last one!), and that I will be seeing Cas, Elander and the others in a couple more books!
