I started this series years and years ago and I think got some way into the second book and stopped, though I don't know why. When I returned to it a few years back, I just wasn't getting on with it. So it sat on my shelf with the vague intention to try again at some point. I've been back at my parents for a month and decided to read it because as a hardback I knew it wasn't coming with me when I left again. Starting back at the start I found myself enjoying it and read the three books across the last two weeks. I really enjoyed how the book engaged with morals, that people can be bent on causing the least harm and still make mistakes. How there is no straightforward way to rule and that many inventions are neither good nor bad but it depends on the people using them. The books have a good pace and manage to remain anchored despite existing in a universe with an infinite amount of worlds, principally through the strong characters. Tension due to bad communication isn't my favourite and
I felt Qall's transformation into wise leader who commands respect at the end felt a little shallow, though it was justified because he absorbed Valhan's memories
. Overall I'm very glad I got back to the series, though apparently there's another book I didn't know about so I'll have to pick that up at some point

I thought this was the last one and they keep on going!!!

I'm not really loving this series. It's got the same problems as the previous book, where the characters seem to be doing things for the plot's sake, rather than what they'd actually choose to do. And things are slow and complicated. It's not my favourite series.
