This book wasn't bad...but I wouldn't consider it a 4 or 5 star read. There were some really funny lines in it, but I didn't care for how much Lily lived in the past and ran away from her problems. I couldn't figure out why she . She came across as a very weak character to me. Aidan was a bit better but I also couldn't fathom some of his choices from his past. It made for an unsatisfying story. The siblings did intrigue me somewhat though, so I'll be continuing with the series.
Spoiler
never confronted her old boss about the fact that he put her up to leaking the story, or never went to the press about the fact that her boss had told her to leak the story

The Plot: Girl leaves hometown after tragedy, leaving boy behind (though without actually knowing how boy felt because, tragedy). Girl returns a decade later, boy tries to save heart, fails miserably...
The Characters: Lily Danville is adorable, funny, and alone. As in, no huge family or huge network of friends, in the hometown she grew up in and left. Just her best bud Jonathan, who offered her a lifeline when she needed one.
Until Aidan. And the Kincaid clan, because where one goes the rest (almost) aren't far behind... Aidan is the strong (profession), silent (personality) type. He's loyal to his family - to a fault. And he's always been in love with Lily.
The Story: Second Chance Summer is typical Shalvis - sweet, sexy, and sassy. It'll will tug at your heartstrings, then turn around and have you looking for a fan to cool yourself down - in other words, it's a great start to a new series, and I can't wait to read about more about the Kincaids, and other residents of Cedar Ridge!

• Jill Shalvis is one of my all time favorite authors. I love her small town settings and swoon worthy guys. Second Chance Summer is the first in a new series and I'm excited to see what this small town in Colorado has to offer.
• Lily took awhile to come around to. She's returning to Cedar Ridge with her tail between her legs and Cedar ridge holds some bad memories for her. She didn't completely deal with her bad memories, which I appreciate as not everything can be fixed all at one time.
• Aidan was so easy to like. He was funny, has a great relationship with his family (especially his brothers) but he's not so over the top perfect either.
• Lily and Aidan did not have a previous relationship, however they do have a connection, which is party complicated by what happened to Lily years ago before she first left Cedar Ridge. I liked how that prior connection brings them together as well as holds them back a bit.
• As always with a Shalvis book the side characters are key. I loved Lily's friend, he gives her a job, which makes him awesome. He is also just plain hilarious. Aidan's brothers were also a lot of fun, as was his sister-in-law Penny (she was by far my favorite).
• There were some parts that were a bit over the top (Aidan's three jobs for one), but I enjoyed the story enough that it didn't bother me. And truthfully, I don't often let those things bother me anyway.
• While I enjoyed Second Chance Summer a lot, it didn't quite leave me with the same feelings that the Lucky Harbor books did, but I'm not sure it's really fair to compare them.
Overall If you have liked any of Jill Shalvis' other books or enjoy contemporary romances than Second Chance Summer is for you.

I read the vast majority of Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis the first day home from Book Expo America. To say that I was both physically and mentally exhausted is putting it mildly. While Second Chance Summer was the perfect choice to read after going nonstop for a few days, I’m finding it extremely difficult to recall the story, and it’s only been a few days since I read the book.
Second Chance Summer definitely has the feel of a typical Jill Shalvis book and I mean that in the best possible way because Jill Shalvis writes the best contemporary romance! Lily is having a rough time, and heads back to her home town of Cedar Ridge. She hasn’t been back there since she left as a teen after the death of her sister. Lily is still dealing with her sister’s death, and feels a lot of guilt over it.
Aidan Kincaid and Lily were almost an item back in the day, but then Lily left town, which did leave Aidan a bit heartbroken. But that was years ago, and now Aidan is a grown man who is a firefighter and works for Search and Rescue which keeps him very busy because people keep getting lost in the Colorado Mountains. Aidan is seriously, seriously swoony my friends, but what else would you expect from a Shalvis hero.
It was a lot of fun to see Aidan and Lily dance around each other for awhile. They both still have major feels for the other, but they aren’t sure where they stand either. They both make mistakes, but it’s clear how perfect they are for each other.
Second Chance Summer is a great start to a promising new series by Jill Shalvis. It doesn’t quite have the charm of Lucky Harbor, but I think it could, given a few more books in the series. Fans of Jill Shalvis will not be disappointed.

I am pretty late to reading Jill Shalvis books, and usually end up starting a series half way through! So it is great to finally start a series right as it begins.
I love a good second chance romance, and if you haven't guess from the title, this is exactly what we get here.
When Lily up and left Cedar Ridge without a word a decade ago, it ripped Aidan's heart out. And now she is back - how will they handle things.
I loved the spark between our lovelies. There is a fine line between love and hate, and this pair are toeing that line, but who will be the one to cross it?
Oh Aidan ♥ what is not to love about Aidan Kincaid? Like all of Ms Shalvis' books, she has given us a sweet, loving, alpha hero. Uber protective of "his woman" - whether she knows she is is woman or not.
Plus, hello - firefighter! Hose me down!
It took me a while to warm up to Lily. Not sure what it was, but once I warmed up to her I adored her. I could understand her thoughts about Cedar Ridge, but I wanted to shake some sense into her, tell her to pull her head out of her butt and see what is right in front of her.
There is a great openness between Aidan and the rest of his family. There is this amazing love for each other, no matter what. Doesn't stop the hijinx and jokes on each other *cough cough pink undies cough cough*. You can only fight with people you love the way they do and not have it come between them.
The relationship between our lovelies felt organic. There was so ,much history between them that they were just drawn to each other.
So, will Lily give in and let Aidan into her heart - again? Or will the past still come between them?
Nope, for that you are going to have to read for yourself.
I really enjoyed this first installment in the Cedar Ridge series, and cannot wait to read more about the Kincaid family and their adventures!

Lily Danville had left Cedar Ridge, Colorado after she lost her sister and father planning never to return. After her job, boyfriend, and life implodes she is back working for her best friend in his salon until she gets back on her feet. Seeing Aidan Kincaid again though was not on the plan, she knows she could have lost her heart to him but something kept her from ever exploring it.
Aidan can't believe Lily is back and he definitely wants to spend time with her, Lily though is pushing him away at every turn. He gets that she is scared but he is determined to break through the wall she is determined to keep in place.
Filled with humor, chemistry, and the feeling of being part of the Kindcaid family this is a terrific story. I loved the warmth you feel with all the characters, each one is so different and you want more. You want to leap to the next book and see what happens next. Lily is a fascinating character, she is a shell of her former self though and Aidan brings the best out of her. Aidan is a bit of a player and struggles with his feelings with Lily, he knows he wants her but how much is what worries him. Highly entertaining.
