Thank you for the Audiobook ARC @Netgally

After their very last party of college a group of friends find out one of the girls in their group is found dead. Her name was Stephanie everyone seems to grieve and move on very quickly leaving her case to become cold.

One of the guys decides to become a crime podcast host and insists on reopening the case. He starts to reconnect with his old group of friends and starts asking questions. One person doesn't like it and so it begins...

My thoughts:

The narrators in this audiobook did a really good job beginning these characters to life. I was hooked immediately after the first page. I wanted to know what would happen next. I would highly recommend you checking out the audiobook. The twist and turns were so good! I didn't figure it out until the last minute.

"The Girl at the Party" by Danielle Stewart is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The story follows a group of friends haunted by the murder of their best friend, Stephanie, four years ago. As they delve deeper into the events leading up to that tragic night, they uncover a web of secrets and deception that shakes their perception of Stephanie and each other.

The author skillfully weaves together multiple plot threads, creating a complex and intriguing narrative. The pacing is spot-on, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger that left me eager to read on. The character development is exceptional, and I found myself emotionally invested in their lives and the quest for truth.

The protagonist, Laura, serves as the lens through which the story unfolds. Her determination to solve the mystery and her involvement in a true crime podcast adds an extra layer of tension and intrigue. The dynamics among the group of friends are realistically portrayed, with rivalries, secrets, and simmering tensions that keep you guessing about their true motives.

Stewart's writing style is engaging and immersive, painting vivid scenes that bring the settings to life. The twists and turns throughout the story kept me guessing, and the revelation of the killer's identity was both shocking and satisfying. The suspense builds steadily, creating a palpable sense of danger and suspense that will keep readers eagerly turning the pages.

"The Girl at the Party" is a masterfully crafted thriller that will appeal to fans of the genre. With its well-drawn characters, intricate plot, and relentless suspense, it's a captivating read that will keep you guessing until the final page. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a thrilling and immersive reading experience.

On a night when a group of friends are celebrating the end of their time in university, one of them is killed.

Flash forward several years, and the case has gone cold. So have the remaining friendships. After one member of the group, now a true-crime podcaster, decides to use his resources to try to finally find her killer, secrets they all were hiding start to be unearthed.

This was a decently engaging if not exactly ground-breaking thriller, with enough action and suspense to keep the reader’s attention. I feel like I’ve read this story a few times before, but I enjoyed it well enough.

Stephanie Cannon did a good job with the audiobook narration.

Thank you Danielle Stewart, Bookouture Audio, and NetGalley for providing this ALC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Girl at the Party is a thrilling mystery that kept me guessing the whole time! It is about a friend group where one friend died after leaving the party early. Now they are fast forwarding 6 years and two of the friends in the friend group are doing a podcast to try and finally solve the murder.

This book definitely kept me guessing. Every other chapter I was thinking that the murderer was someone different!

The ending was a bit disappointing to me after the murderer was revealed.

I’ll dive right in and say that this is quite a slow burn… and it does take awhile for pieces to fall into place. I found that the main two characters, Chris and Laura, a little draining to start with but once other characters came into place it was an easier listen. There are some twists and turns, and you don’t find out what happened until the last 5% of the book.

I would have loved to get to know Stephanie a little bit more, as it’s a rarity that we are in her head. She was the outkast of the group and appeared to be troubled in her last few days of life. Considering she was the “girl at the party” I’d have liked a little more story from her.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with the audio-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. ✨

The girl at the party
Story ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Narrator ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This whodunnit story line is based around a group of college friends and told in the present with flashbacks to the past, as Chris and Laura try to solve Stephanie’s murder.
2/3rds in I think it became quite apparent who the killer was and their motives.
The best part of this audiobook was the narrator, she made the book completely. engaging and easy to listen to.
If you enjoy a fast paced crime thriller,
Then this was an easy read with plenty of engaging parts.

I would love to say thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to have an audio copy of The Girl at the Party by Danielle Stewart, this review is simply my own, and mine alone.
It truly was a crazy story. Two friends who lost touch after college teams back up to create a podcast of their friend who was murdered at their party. It was simply a roller coaster of craziness. It has a few different povs. Between Chris, Stephanie and Laura. In both the past and present. You quickly learn not everyone is who they seem to be the more they deep dive into the podcast. Even to the point their lives become threatened to the point of death. I do recommend giving this book a shot if you like thrilling mysteries with some fun twists and turns.

Stephanie was killed five years ago while leaving a college party that she didn’t even want to attend. The police ruled it a random attack, but now her friends Chris and Laura are making a true crime podcast to uncover what really happened that night. Interviews with the friends that were at the party that night result in Laura and Chris getting threats as the get closer and closer to the truth. Will they discover what really went down and why? Read this one to find out!

This was a bit of a slow burn at first, but once it got going, I started questioning EVERYONE’s motives and trying to figure out who actually killed Stephanie. I did not figure it out! I loved the dual POV between Chris and Laura, and the flashbacks to the party. The way that Danielle Stewart told this story was definitely intriguing. I think it was a great debut and look forward to seeing what she puts out next.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me this audio ARC.
