I don't even remember reading this book. I guess that lest you know how good it is.

Maybe 2.5 because I listened to this while driving and probably missed a good enough portion to warrant another half star. Or at least that's what I'm pretending. Let's hope the part I didn't hear was better than the part I did. Because this wasn't great.

OK, for the zero money I paid for it, I cannot complain much. But I can complain a little - the current new situation where everybody who went through a creative writing course can publish stuff on amazon so easily has is advantages but also some disadvantages - since so many people cannot distinguish literary gold from literary crap, a lot of stuff that would never have been published before gets published now, and people like it. oh well.

I really didn't like this one. I would say more, but that sums it all up.

This book started off sounding like a strong coming of age journey but quickly blazed past the parts I really wanted to dive into. Without giving away spoilers I will just say that this book is worth a listen but if you're anything like me then you will be filled with a longing to dig into the characters story more.

I came across gabriel on my search for free audible files, and it was interesting.

i liked the sci fi theme at points it was like somehing between alien and terminator it was pretty cool and fun to hear.

gabriel i like him.he is pretty complex and i liked that a lot, the experiment such a cool thing to feature, love it.

I do think later on I will try to pick up the series.

Military sci-fi, human augementation and a super soldier in the making. Reads like a prologue to the main series. The story was ok, but didn't do much for me. Minimal world building and a pretty antiquated view of women.

My main gripe was the narrator of the audiobook. He had a very soft voice and made the main character, a supposedly tough guy, born leader and great soldier, sound like a whiny boy. And the main female character sounded more like a porn actress than an accomplished doctor and scientist.

I strongly doubt that I will continue the series, but if I did, it would definitely not be as an audiobook with this narrator.

*Please note that I haven't read the rest of this trilogy, so I went into this novella with a blank slate. The description mentions this could be read before or after reading the other. I'm sure my reaction would be a little different had I read it after the other books.*

Gabriel: Zero Point was a pretty good novella. There isn't that much to it in terms of building the futuristic world that it's set in, but it does a great job of setting up Gabriel, the main character. Being that he is the main character of the trilogy that follows this novella, I think getting the story of where he started is probably better than getting the grander world view. The novels have more room for that. Still, this is only, for the most part, a small glimpse into what is to come and I felt like maybe just a little more info would have made it that much more enjoyable for me.

Overall, it's filled with action, there aren't any lulls to the story, and it's gotten me interested in the other books. I think Umstead has much in store for me, once I start the trilogy. I'm looking forward to it.

I got the prequel to the Evan Gabriel series on Audible. It's always nice to get freebie intros for a new story. As my new habit, I put on Zero Point to listen to while I do other work.

The story is about how Evan Gabriel was recruited and the diabolical trial he faced to become a part of the special forces. There isn't a whole lot of description for the scenes. I only know that the story takes place in a space oriented future due to the blurb and cover. What is clear is the kind of man Gabriel may be and how he acts under pressure. There are teasing pieces of the man who decided Gabriel's future as an unknown recruit.

The story did the job. My imagination has been tickled with thoughts and ideas. I have to find out if what I've guessed is right or not. I'll definitely read Gabriel's Redemption to see if I'm right or not.
