Listen, if you had told me a year ago that my favorite series of the year, the ones I can't put down, the ones I binge through, are ones about small cursed children who have magic in them that they don't know about, that go to magical schools, ugh *chef's kiss.*

  • All the Evergirls trying to plan their ballgowns ahead of time, plus contingency gowns

  • Agatha accidentally eating a fairy upon arrival
Tricking their reflections to pass the bridge
The deep mystery of the reader mural, the proof of the balance of good/evil, the School Master's riddle, and so many other threads that start to be woven in book 2, and hopefully book 3
  • Agatha reading more of her Good textbooks and falling in love with that world
Locking Dot out of the coven
  • Sophie trying to prettify her uniforms

ok so mixed feelings here. on one side i hated it, sophie was pretty much unbearable but on the other side I thoroughly enjoyed it. the world is just amazing, and while sophie is definitely not my favourite character, especially at the start of the book, I do love her development at the end.

now the characters I do like. hester, anadil and dot. i love them so much. the fact that they are the figure of evil for the start of the book, but there is so much good in their hearts and I love them.

agatha is one of my favourite characters in this book. her development, insecurities and personality is amazing

overall a pretty good read!

loved the part where a girl recovered mentally by becoming more "normal" and "girly". loved the part where they made fun of women not shaving. loved the part where a fat girl becomes "good" and it makes her magically thin. and the part where sophie begs her friend for help, takes that help, then accuses her friend of stealing her crush in a consistent three chapter cycle? loved every second. /sarcasm

A fantastic premise wasted. Superficial, homophobic, and disappointing.
