Das Bündnis der Rosen hatte ich vor Monaten zuerst direkt im Anschluss an den ersten Band angefangen, dann kam irgendwas dazwischen und es hat sich immer weiter hinausgezögert. Jetzt habe ich neu begonnen und hatte ein paar Schwierigkeiten wieder in Geschichte zu kommen. Teilweise ging es mir zu schnell. Außerdem bin ich kein Fand von kurzen Büchern mit langen Kapiteln, da sich die einzelnen Handlungspunkte oft ziehen, so auch hier am Anfang. Nach dem ersten Drittel ging es wieder besser, die Kapitel wurden kürzer und die Handlung ging besser voran.
Allerdings hat mir etwas gefehlt, was mir im ersten Band so sehr gefallen hat.

This book was interesting, but extremely dark. I have never met a character like Adelina before. She definitely falls more on the side of evil, but she fools herself, and the reader, into thinking she is good. It resonates with the side all of us have but don’t want to admit- the side that takes pleasure in others' pain, the side that seeks glory and doesn’t care what price they of anyone else have to pay.

I loved it so much!! Somehow Marie Lu's writing managed to get even better; I didn't know that was possible.

I read the first book like 6 years ago, so I honestly had little idea as to what was going on. That's more my fault than anything. Still, it was pretty entertaining. I don't know if I am interested enough to read the third book, even though I am curious as to how the series will end.

First of all, kudos to Marie Lu for writing such a hate-able character from scratch right before our eyes. It was quite the feat.
Which leads me to my next point. I didn't notice before that a large part of the book is written in third-person, present tense. Third-person, present, in my opinion, is the mosts difficult one to get right. And Marie Lu did it. That was also ver impressive.
Now for my feeling about the book.
This is a very dark book. It's almost hard to see it as a YA because the characters don't exactly act like teenagers and there are a few could-have-been-graphic scenes as well.
I spent most of the book wishing someone would kill Adelina, or hurt her, or even simply snap her out of her self-pitying self-righteousness. Because lets be honest, if she ever realized what a horrible person she's become, she will most probably implode.
And you know what, it turns out the Daggers are the good guys, "good" being a relative term.
I apologise if this review is all over the place. It's because my head is also all over the place. I'm not sure how to organise either.
Overall, I loved the writing and the plot and the character development. I liked the direction the author decided to take the story (even if it is killing me) and I'm very eager to find out how this series will conclude.
I definitely recomment this series. Just go in knowing that it's very dark and the protagonist is the antagonist.
