This is an easy read filled with solid advice, but there were too many ideas and phrases lifted straight from Dave Ramsey for me to give this book more than 2 stars.
I’ve been using the author’s Budget by Paycheck Book since November 2020. During the pandemic my work hours were reduced from five days a week to two days a week. As I’m sure happened to you, my expenses did not get cut by 3/5. I had to find a way to still pay my bills and 3/5 of my income.
I’m very blessed that I didn’t start out with debt. It was just a matter of paying my monthly bills, and redirecting what little extra money I had to fewer places. I’m also very lucky that I’m married, so if I came up short during one of those beginning months, I could borrow a little from my husband.
Kumiko‘s book, My Money My Way, reads as though she’s sitting in front of you, chatting about helping you set a budget, helping you direct every dollar to a goal. She gives you examples of some of the worksheets that she offers free of charge on her website. She explains how they work. She’s so positive and so encouraging. By the time you get to the end of the book you’ll be absolutely convinced that you can do this.
I’ve spent the last 17 months managing my money using the tools that she taught me on her website, on Instagram, on YouTube, on Facebook. Starting next month I’m going to expand my money management to include my husband’s income and his expenses. This is going to be very different: I’ll be looking at what WE spend and save as opposed to what I spend and save.
I can’t recommend this book more highly, her budgeting plans more highly, her Videos and Instagram stories and posts more highly. She presents everything in an easy to understand, easy to follow way. All I can say is, if you need help with your money, read this book. Follow The Budget Mom. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

I think I would have found this book more beneficial if I had come across it a few years ago. I have been following TBM since 2020, so there wasn’t much in the book that I wasn’t already familiar with.

I love The Budget Mom. I would highly recommend the book to someone who isn’t already following her or who is feeling lost with their finances. For myself, I’ve been following her for several years, so the book wasn’t a “must read” for me. It’s a great round up of what she’s been sharing on social media, her blog and YouTube for years. So, some good reminders. But if someone is new to her - the book would be a great place to start for sure.
