What We Harvest:
Thank you @getunderlined @prhaudio partner, for my gifted copy.
I know I irrationally love my dog too, but now I understand how I sound to my husband when I talk about my dog.
Now that is out of the way, this is seriously the perfect creepy horror YA rec for fall. We have this farming community that has this rot coming to life. When you ingest of have direct contact with the blight, it’s lights out. You’re basically an extra on The Walking Dead. Our girl Wren thinks it’s all her fault this is happening because she tried to help a bit with her family’s rainbow wheat. What is unveiled is a secret that goes beyond all comprehension.
I won’t lie, this book grossed me out in the best way. The descriptions on how this zombie wheat was affecting people had me side eyeing my tomatoes as I was doing fall garden clean up. Lauren Ezzo always creeps me out in a horror book, and I feel like that’s her calling. She’s the voice of my nightmares.
Overall, a great haunting of a book for your YA dreams. This was a backlist for me on NetGalley, and I remember not being able to finish but knew I wasn’t in the right mind space. I’m so glad I picked it up again because this was freaking terrifying and amazing.

I read this in one day. I picked it up at about 8am, had a breakfast break at 10, a shower & a snack at 1 and finished this whole thing cover to cover.
What’s not to love? It’s a YA horror fantasy. Love, sadness, zombies, rainbows & dark secrets.

I think I would have enjoyed this story a lot more if I’d heard a version with a less frantic reader. The narrator’s constant state of agitated reading was annoying and distracted me. Her interpretation pushed it into melodrama. Disappointing.
Holy moly! This was incredible. I’m a huge chicken so I was super nervous and scared through the majority of the story. There was so so much suspense it felt like my heart was going to beat of of my chest. I literally couldn’t stop reading as soon as I started the first line of the book. The entire premise of the story is incredible. I loved the characters and the mysteries along the way. Wren is such a brave strong main character. This was one of the best books I’ve read lately. I will be pre ordering a hard copy for myself!!
*thank you so much to netgalley for the arc in exchange for a review*

* CW from the author: Animal death (animal illness, no pet death, animals hunted are blighted and feral), Body horror (emesis, illness [blight], contagion), Violence (battery, biting, guns, mind control & possession), Blood, Gore, Medical trauma (experimentation, off-page)
This book was so freaking good! If you know me, you know that I love a good YA body horror book, and this delivered! I hadn't heard of this book before reading it, so I had no clue what to expect, but I'm glad that I ended up loving it because it's actually the 100th book that I've read this year!
I will say that I wish this had less of a focus on the relationship and more on the character development. But overall, the vibes and spooky atmosphere were top-tier, and I loved the animal companion aspect. I don't know why but it just made me really happy.
If you're looking for a fast-paced book for Autumn time, I'd highly recommend this one! It also gives me [b:Burn Our Bodies Down|52748041|Burn Our Bodies Down|Rory Power|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1573588170l/52748041._SX50_SY75_.jpg|72451374] vibes, so if you liked that book, I think you'll enjoy this one too!

Good scary stuff. Prose not my favorite and I wish there was more character development. But the plot was addictive and frightening.
