This book was enjoyable enough but the issue that created "the break up" (a requirement in romance so that in itself was not my problem) seemed very forced. It felt like the author knew it had to be done yet went at it half-heartedly. If that was going to be the issue that tore the couple apart I would have liked to see a little more investment in laying that foundation.
The characters were likable and their banter was entertaining.
It sounds picky, but the house on the cover of the book looks nothing like the house in the narrative; specifically, no wraparound porch.

I liked this f/f romance quite a lot. A tenure-track professor and a home contractor bond over home renovations and crockpot meals and figuring out how to work as a couple. It’s on the lighter side with no real heavy themes, which I was exactly in the mood for. The pace dragged a little but I was charmed enough to not care.

Olivia Bennett is an English college professor and just bought an old house in Ithaca. She hires contractor Joss Bauer to do the work on her house. Olivia is attracted to Joss and vice versa but Joss doesn't like the fact that Olivia is a professor, she was burned by an academic in the past and still carries negative feelings about it.

I couldn't say that I liked both main characters because they each annoyed me during parts of the book at one point or another. However, I did like the supporting characters and would've liked to have read more about them.

As much as I didn't like the conflicts which arose within the book, I have to admit that it was quite realistic problems and arguments the couples would have.

I wanted to enjoy this book more than I did but was slightly disappointed, I enjoyed the first half of the book but thought it dragged in the latter half. Overall, a nice light read for an afternoon.

Really enjoyed this story overall. It had some things I really liked and some things that I didn't but I would recommend. Plus I really want my own Pierre and Billy.

Received from NetGalley for my honest review.

I haven't read much enjoyable Lesbian Fiction, so I had been looking for some. This fit the bill! I actually LOVED the story, it was really cute and I almost rated it a 5, but the ladies drove me nuts at different times!

I don't expect characters to be perfect, but I like them to be consistent, at least when they are grown adults. At first, I didn't really like Joss at all, I thought she was stuck up and looked down at everyone and didn't know how to have fun at all. Olivia on the other hand was playful and fun and I really liked her personality. The story was so cute and I liked how they got to know each other.

But then, they totally swapped personalities. Joss is all of a sudden had a great personality and I was rooting for her when Olivia became such a bitch. I understand she was going through some rough stuff, but she didn't need to be so bitchy to the one person who was trying to help her out, and putting up with her! Story wise, I do wish there was more of a resolution to what happened.

Overall, I really loved the story and I liked the characters even though they both got on my nerves. I love the different things they did with the house and watching it transform, like they did. Very enjoyable!

More thorough review to come, but the highlights here for me were the way the connection between the women grew over time, and that the "black moment" was organic and not at all contrived but rather played absolutely into the characterizations of the characters from step one. More, I had to chuckle a lot at the academia bits because, wow, yeah, I don't miss that at all and am so glad I stopped before I went any further. ;)

Listened to this on audiobook, and while the performer's voice for male characters felt a bit overdone, I quite enjoyed her southern-belle tone for Olivia, and all the characters were really clear without attribution, which is a solid performance.

I did not expect to be pleasantly surprised but I was. Wig.

“Things don’t have to be malicious to do harm.”

Julia Pierce, dumped by her wife of ten years in the most disgraceful way possible, returns to her hometown with her confidence and heart in pieces. And then enter Taylor, who has been in love with her since highschool, who agrees to be her friend and wingman as Julia dips her toes again into the dating world.

Lesbian rep, fat rep, also gay side characters + bonus points for healthy communication!

Not going to lie, the pacing in the first half was kind of off. Julia seemed to recover too fast after the devastating break up, she insisted on catching up on all the living and dating she had missed while being trapped in her past relationship (which is understandable and I support her) but it seemed like she caught feelings for Taylor too fast. Her thoughts and actions were quite conflicting. And there was not much chemistry either.

HOWEVER! After the 50% mark, things started looking up. What I loved the most, and it's still surreal to me that I got to read that, is the communication. *yells, then takes a deep breath* The one thing I hate MOST is lack of communication/miscommunication. If they are done right, I have no problem. And the two instances of lack of communication were done commendably well. Throughout the whole book, Julia and Taylor talked so much about their feelings, their dreams, hopes, regrets, hobbies, kinks *cough*.

Which brings me to another aspect I loved: the sex scenes. They were so well written and felt so natural, they were really easy to follow and picture, which I can't say about many books. There is some light bdsm and bondage and the consent and chemistry were a joy to read.

I adored that Julia made friends! And I loved the bonds each of them had with their respective siblings. It sounds stupid, but more often than not in romance novels there is so much focus on the main couple that they don't really get to form other relationships.

On the downside, like I said, the pacing was a little off in the first half, the changes in POV were quite sudden and not really well delimited. I felt the need for some of the scenes to be longer and not just described in 2 sentences, but I guess it's not the end of the world.

So anyways! Really recommending this one!
