The Douglas Adams comparisons provoked me to read this. Amusingly worded lines aside though, there's little else which warrants a recommendation here - if you can accept that, you'll at least have quite a few laughs with it; if you're expecting more than that, don't bother.

Points for the creativity and humor! The story started off strong, but she lost me on the ridiculously long descriptions that almost made up the entire book. I was exhausted by the final act and just wanted it to end. Space Opera left me spaced out.
In common with other reviewers I felt this book tried too hard to be Douglas Adams incarnate. The prose was too , well prosy, and the situations overly contrived to end at a frequently not very funny punchline. what was intended to be a homage to the author of THHGTTG ended up being a pastiche instead.
Some amusing ideas, but the overuse of lengthy, wordy sentences really impacted the readability for me.
The Rise and Fall and Rise of Ziggy Stardust as he takes part in a Eurovision Song Contest - IN SPACE. As narrated by Richard Adams
I love the vibe and the creativity and the douglas adams-esque style and worldbuilding. I'll be thinking about all the different alien species we met for a while. But the main plot and the characters just didn't quite land for me. I enjoyed aspects of them but not the execution, if that makes sense? The emotions got a bit lost in the maximalism of it all

This is an absolutely delightful, wildly original and hilarious book. And let's be honest, there aren't a ton of consistently and deliberately funny books out there - and the world needs a bit more laughter.
I love the commitment to the idea of Eurovision in space down to the downright campiness and consistent absurdity of it all.
The imagination of what other forms of "sentience" could be and their motivators blew me away.
My only, but not insignificant, critique of the book is that the author sometimes just got carried away with the sidebar tangent descriptions of these other species - in many ways, this was where the book was the most Douglas Adams-esque. And I loved it at the beginning, but there were SO many of these that I kind of got overwhelmed/bored by them and started skimming to get back to the main plot of the story.
