I liked the idea of this book, but the constant switching of character perspectives was confusing, and I still don’t think I know why they created the beast in the first place

This is an interesting plot with so much that happens in just over a week time span! I enjoyed this read and it wasn’t predictable, but I wasn’t invested in it unfortunately. I love the concept of this, and I feel like it could have been creepier and more scary if some scenes had been drawn out a little more, but overall an interesting concept and a fairly quick read!
I love old dilapidated places. A book surrounding an amusement park sounded like chef’s kiss. Unfortunately, there was too much going on. The writing felt all over the place. As a horror, it was disappointing. I never felt scared or thrilled. The point of view was throwing me off. Third person, omniscient. It almost felt like first person at times. I think I have found third person just isn’t my thing. There were too many characters with too much focus on having tragic backstories. It took away from the present. Also, two of the characters had the same name which added unnecessary confusion/ annoyance. I didn’t care about any of the characters either. The author threw in a romance subplot that I found completely unnecessary in what is supposed to be a horror. Also, I found it highly annoying that one male character thinks they may be lesbians I don’t give a f***. Then another male character thinks oh I’ve never been friends with lesbians that would be cool… it was giving straight author trying to pander to the gay community. I may be completely wrong on that.
I enjoyed the pieces about the amusement park, the first chapter about the Amazement Park, the meeting of the inner circle, and the finding of the journal. But, all the other filler was just not great for me. We didn’t need them getting dropped off on a deserted road, the dinner, the spa, or the nightly base camp stuff.
I needed more horror and for no one to survive. There doesn’t always have to be survivors in the end.

First book i picked up for my own enjoyment in 10 years. It was perfect for getting me back into reading, but wasn’t SUPER spectacular. It did everything i needed it to. No more no less. Fun read overall though
