It was okay, kind of cute but maybe a little too simplistic for me

Charlie, Jamie, and Taylor have headed to SupaCon (basically San Diego Comic Con) for the first time. Charlie is promoting the hot new indie movie that she’s the star of and her 2 best friends are along for the ride. Over the course of a weekend they all discover things about themselves that they had never even considered

This was okay, a little simplistic for my tastes. I thought it would be a little bit more emotionally complex than it was, the characters pulled a little young at times. Having said that I do remember what it was like to be 17/18 and how simultaneously adult and juvenile you are at that age so I guess the book kind of did capture that essence but overall it was a very easy read a bit too simplistic for my taste, but I would possibly give it to a younger relative to read and enjoy because I think they would appreciate it more than I did

Definitely one of my new favorite books! Queens of Geek sends so many positive messages (body positivity, women empowering other women, etc.). It's incredibly diverse with people of color (one MC is Chinese-Australian, her love interest is described as having "umber skin"), characters with Aspergers and/or social anxiety, different body types, and different sexualities.
I was able to connect with Taylor on such a deep level. The way she described her anxiety was so close to how I experience anxiety. I've never really been able to describe my anxiety in much detail but I saw so much of myself in Taylor - it was wonderful.

Liked this a lot, but it just seems too neat, I was always fearing something REALLY bad happening, but it did not. Instead most things just solved itself, it was just to neat & meek, and in the end it felt, meh, just to nice. So no 5 stars for this.
Recommended and will probably read more books from this author (would like a sequel to this!).

I really wanted to like this book, I'd only heard goed things about it but dude it was a load of poop! The writing was nothing special at all, the story was ridiculous, things happened at the end that was like a rainbow magical perfect end it was so unrealistic and lazy writing or just bad... and every other background character said something misogynistic/ homophobic/ body shaming so that someone could go into an inspirational speech... of course it's great to have supportive good messages in a book, but this is so lazily squeezed in.
I finished the book because I bought this book in Shakespeare and Company in Paris so it's special to me in that way, and that's how sure I was that I would like it! I think it's rated so well because every person starts off their review with the diversity is great and the representation! And yes, they are awesome. But I'm afraid good writing needs to come first, I would love a book that has this amount of representation and deals with such important things that is actually not trash. Ok, I'll say another nice thing about it, it describes anxiety really well. This book should have been perfect for me... I perhaps should have read it years ago though when I was in the worst of anxiety and the depth of tumblr fandoms haha.
So 2 stars for good idea, and good description of some of the issues -3 BIG STARS for being bad writing. ok rant over. I'm just sad because I bought it from Shakespeare and Company and don't even like it :'( which btw is the coolest bookstore would reccommend

OMG OMG OMG OMG *flails and squees* This book was perfection! This book is going in my favourite books of all time list! <3 <3 <3

Sorry if this review is a bit chaotic, I am still experiencing all the feels from this book.

We have 2 MCs, I was thinking it would be three, since we also have Jamie in the party, but he doesn't get any of the spotlight (which isn't so weird given that he is with Taylor all the time and it would just become boring if they also added his POV). I loved both girls instantly. I am not sure how to explain, but they both just struck a chord with me. Later Taylor became even more of a favourite of mine.

And that had to do with how her mind worked, how close that was to mine. I am not as anxious as she is, but I do know the feeling of having to go out, being in a crowd, talking to people, her boyfriend problems, and so much more. Later we find out why Taylor is like this, and I could connect to her even more. It was absolutely fabulous, it doesn't often happen that I can connect to a character on this level.
Add to that the fact she is, just like me, a total geek, and that she can totally fangirl about something that she holds dear. I was just squeeing with her!

Then we have Charlie and while at first I thought she was a guy (sorry, her name, I just don't hear it on girls that often). :P I really liked how hard she worked, and how dedicated she was to her vlogging, her audience, her fangirls. I did feel sorry for her with the whole Reese (what a prick) situation and how her precious convention time turned to something totally different. She wanted to show the world that she was over him, but doesn't really get a chance with what is going on in this book. I loved how she stayed firm and strong though, she clearly told Reese her borders, what he shouldn't do, and what he should do. I was worried this might end up like so many other books, her falling again for the guy. But thankfully, quite soon I could see that this book would take a different route.

Yes, this book is all about the convention, but it is also about two love stories. And I have to say that those love stories were perfect. I was squeeing, shipping, and shouting at my book that the characters should already kiss. It just took so long, and I just wanted to see those two couples get on with it already, there was so much chemistry and so many sparks flying.

The convention was also fabulous, I loved how well everything was described. I just could imagine myself at the con, walking around and having a totally fabulous time.

I also loved how Taylor, even though she was afraid, made several giant steps and leaps during the convention, and it was a delight when she found out she did all that.

Next to the convention, to the love stories, we also have our group thinking about the future. All 3 of them want to go to LA/US for university and live together. This is a big step as all of them are from Australia (well, Jamie only has lived there for a few years). I didn't mind this part at all, if anything it made the book even more interesting to read.

I think I have said all I have wanted to say, of course there are many more elements to this book, but I don't want to make the review too long, plus again, I am still in THE FEELS mode.

All in all, this was a book that I loved, adored, and will recommend to everyone. It is cute, fluffy, but also has lots of real stuff interwoven (Taylor and what makes her tick, bisexuality, the university/college/future stuff, about privacy).

50000000/5 STARS!! I ABSOLUTELY L O V E D THIS BOOK HOLY FUCK. i read it in one sitting and fell in LOVE. i related to the two main characters SO MUCH. Taylor was me in my very fangirly but very anxious self and Charlie was me in the queer aspect of things. she's probably one of the only queer characters that i can truly see myself in (even though we identify differently). Jen Wilde is a PHENOMENAL writer and im SO GLAD i read this. aaaaaaaah πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š

Fun fandom romcom with heart

I've never been to a convention, so this was a fun peek inside what that might be like. It also had two fun romances, fandom for days, and really fully realized characters with quirks and flaws to overcome and embrace. I really appreciated seeing inside the head of s character with Asperger's and social anxiety. I thought that was really well done.
