I content tagged moderate cultural appropriation because one of the POV characters is Chinese Australian and the author is … definitely not. And while I assume no harm was intended, I personally feel uncomfy about a white author writing a quirky primary hair-colored Asian protagonist that just drop 3 or 4 small references to her heritage and that’s it. It was very refreshing to read about Charlie’s & Jamie’s & Taylor’s friendship, Charlie becoming more comfy in her bisexuality andbookish_jena's review against another edition

I wish it had been more of a SDCC kinda con (which I thought it was gearing up to be, with where it is and all the star sighting), going on for a week. I think it would have given more time to flesh out the characters and their relationships.
I also didn’t love the aphobia in there, but I’ll let it go since it’s an older novel.
Cute, but I wouldn’t reread it.
