Quite nice novella with a few flaws that ties in with the Metahuman series.

Content warnings include:
Spoiler violence, sex on-page, abuse of power, military personnel going against direct orders (killing people instead of apprehending them alive), both without repercussions; mentions of domestic violence, PTSD

For the most part I did enjoy this novella about Trevor, former Alpha Team's telekinetic.
After the events of In the Requiem he's studying to become a surgeon, but when an attack happens at his school he won't sit by idly. Which is how he meets Brendan, a paramedic.

The attraction between them is instantaneous, which makes sense for a novella this length, though I still wish their beginnings had been fleshed out more. They do spend a few days together during which they presumably talk, but to me it still felt like they barely just met each other before they went all "let's to steady forever."

But that wasn't my main issue with the book. Instead I was mostly made uncomfortable by the continued abuse of power the protagonists in this series exhibit. Trevor repeatedly uses his telekinesis to apprehend bad guys, and in doing so severely injures them despite the abundant evidence of him being more than able to use his powers gently.
Like, okay, the antagonists here were basically Nazis. Am I up for reading about Nazis getting punched in the face? Heck yeah. But am I uncomfortable when government sanctioned and sponsored forces abuse their power or go against direct orders to hurt people without repercussions? Very much so.
While this stood out in this novella in particular, the unilateral glorification of the military and at times almost extreme patriotism is an ongoing theme in the Metahuman series that has made me uncomfortable before.

Thankfully unecessary violent actions isn't everything that Trevor uses his telekinesis for. Let's just say I severely underestimated the appeal of such a power in the bedroom...👀👀👀

I also really liked Brendan. He's a normal guy, who cares about getting the fajitas he's owned.

Another thing I enjoyed was well-known side characters, namely Alpha Team and other MDF members making their appearances, as well as a few new and interesting faces that I'd love to see again! Can't wait to see who of them the next novella will be about - as long as poor Katie finally gets to go on a date in peace I'm fine with any of them.

I really do love this series! Trevor and Brendan have kind of an instant love connection. I do really wish we had more time to delve in a little more as to why Brendan was so down on himself at the beginning. I loved Trevor's protective self. I also love how this whole team is really a family and is always there for each other.

I love seeing the life of another member of the team, Trevor. The other members are there as well, but it’s based on Trevor and his time in medical school and his relationship with a paramedic Brendan.

They have a slow burn, even for a novella and it’s amazing. They both show their internal attraction for one another and it’s a beautiful show to have a front row seat to.

The more I read/listen to Hailey Turner’s work the more I love it. She’s by far one of my favorites.

A perfect little bite-sized story that allows to revisit the series and characters, but without the stress of an over-arching story looming over our heads. The romance itself is very sweet and adorable. Loved it.

This is a great short story. Trevor Sanchez was a member of Team Alpha in the main books but at the end of the last one he decided to go back to school to study medicine and become a doctor. He was always kinda in the periphery in the main books - there but never the focus, so this was a nice treat to get some focus on him.

The terrorist attack by the Sons of Adam in the 5th and final book happened in April of that year, and it is now September and Trevor has been in medical school for a few months now.

It's there at the school/teaching hospital/trauma center that an emergency happens, and Trevor of course rushes in to save the day because he's trained for this and has his metahuman power. Since the alpha team is known, he doesn't have to use anything to obscure his face either. People know who he is - the whole team has to deal with people knowing who they are.

Turns out some Sons of Adams guys low on the totem pole and in a pretty weak cell are having a domestic violence dispute, and in the Sons of Adams way, it involves guns and shooting at people. It's in the ER that Trevor saves and meets Brendan Kane, a paramedic who is risking his life to save the patient.

After Trevor deals with the aftermath, he goes to see Brendan - who was grazed on the arm - and helps heal him and get him home.

A few days later Trevor comes back into Brendan's life when they find out the Sons of Adam are targeting Brendan for getting in their way and saving the woman's life, and so Trevor stays with Brendan to protect him, and over the next few days they start to fall for each other, and when Brendan is attacked, Trevor moves him to his place to be safe.

They give into their desires and while it's new and everything, there are already deep feelings there.

Brendan is such a sweet, nice guy with a big heart who was perfect for Trevor, and they were so sweet - and hot ;) - together. Trevor's telekinesis makes for some, uh, fun times in the bedroom ;). And the care and protectiveness Trevor has for Brendan is incredibly sweet and adorable.

Can't wait to get more short stories - hopefully we do indeed get that - in this kind of mini series, and hopefully we'll get another short story with Trevor and Brendan because they were great together.
