Entertaining.

It was a pretty good book

Jason wants revenge and won't sit around biding his time when a little reckless action will bring him closer to his goals. Armed with only his wits and a few magical artifacts infiltrates Raven's Ghyll where being discovered by his sworn enemy, D'Orsy actually leads to Jason to unearth untold wealth of the magical kind. Returning with his loot to Trinity at Hastings' insistence, Jason continues to be torn by his emotions and longings, his need to prove to everyone - and himself - his worthiness. In Trinity, the dynamic group of warriors, wizards and other Weirkind are preparing for the onslaught as the war moves ominously in their direction. Meantime, Madison Moss is faced with her own troubles.

A climax of catastrophic proportions looms as the forces of good and evil converge on Trinity.

This is the weakest of the trilogy and definitely the most frustrating. Linda and Hastings were completely out of character and thus barely relevant to the plot which was frustrating. Also, where they ended up at the end just didn't make any sense at all.

Seph was having to operate at a plot armored driven level of superhuman ability. It was downright irritating because it didn't feel earned.
And no one will be able to convince me that he allowed his parents to just move halfway across the world without him after all he wanted was a family. It just doesn't make sense. Also Jack and Linda were so attached! I don't understand it.

Madison and Jason both irritated me the whole book. The best parts of the book were the ones with Jack and Ellen. I also did appreciate Seph. It makes sense that he would drive himself to the point of ruin to prove he can handle it as well as his parents. It was sad but made sense for his character.

The twist at the end with Nick was a surprise that I am not sure how I feel about. I'll reserve judgement because I don't feel like I really cared that much at the end. I do appreciate that the fear of the dragon was fully unearned and toothless.

All in all though, I love this story and this world, even if I think it went a bit off the rails in this book. The whole thing felt like Chima wasn't sure where this would go and kinda made it up as she went along. I am struggling with rating this. I did not like this book much at all, but I enjoyed the first two so much. I think this book gets a 2.75 stars because there were some chunks I liked and some character arcs I enjoyed even if I think the story and many characters had a lot of issues. The series as a whole gets a 4 stars though even if the ending is unsatisfying.

slow start but fun once u get into it

Hard to get into the third book of the series. Didn't really care much for the characters since they didn't seem to care about much either. They all just seemed to have an "I'll fend for myself and see what happens" attitude.

Wasn't very fond of the ending either. Why were some main characters for the series a no-show for the final battle? Guess they were too busy picking out new furniture.

Ebenso 3-3,5 Sterne.

I really enjoy this series and this author's books in general. That said, I rated this one a little lower because it's been my least favorite of them so far.
