Worse than the inferno but at least there is not homophobia.

Most of the love I have for this is Gustave Dore's art. Dante's writing really leaves me cold, though it's fascinating in terms of context.

Another book cleared out that I started forever ago! I hate not giving great works 5 stars, but I have to admit this was a slog. Maybe if I spoke Italian….

Took me a year, but I finally finished The Purgatorio! Compared to The Inferno, Dante really focuses on each level, dedicating multiple cantos to each level of the mountain.
Dante passes a multitude of characters who are learning to repent for not being devout enough in their living years. The situations that the repeaters are put in are always fascinating to read, and Cardia footnotes help me to understand all the symbolism I completely miss.
An enjoyable read, looking forward to finishing The Divine Comedy!
