Platform Seven – Louise Doughty this was a yes/no book for me, it didn’t go the way I expected and I thought it was well written. It is a very important story and one that many people find themselves in without realising it. Part of me just wanted just wanted to shake Lisa and tell her to wake up and smell the roses, she is an intelligent women. But as said in the book ‘you can put a frog in a pan of cold water and gentle turn up the heat and the frog doesn’t realise it is trouble until it is too late’. I thought the book was the anyone could read and maybe someone would recognise themselves in a similar situation and hopefully end up with a better outcome than Lisa.
Wow! This is the most atmospheric book I have read in a long time.
The book begins at Peterborough Train Station, where Lisa is watching a man commit suicide from Platform 7. She is unnerved by this, as its the same location where Lisa herself died. From her ghostly perspective Lisa introduces us to her world, and how she spends her time watching the comings and goings at the station.
The opening section of this book is so creepy and really sets the scene. Lisa is unsure of what has happened to her and as the book goes on she manages to remember more and more of the events that lead her to her death at Platform Seven. As the book progresses the tone changes as we learn more about Lisa and her life leading up to that fateful day.
A 5* read for me. Perfect pacing, great character development and a faithful account of gaslighting within a relationship
