A very good book about heavy topics (
abuse by family members, drug addiction, religion, class differences
) and beautiful writing, but ultimately not an enjoyable read.
The ending was not satisfying which probably makes the ending very realistic and raw but God forbid can a girl have some justice, please???

I'm a little mixed on this one. It's an ambitious debut novel, maybe just a bit too ambitious. The cast of characters is wide and fun and sometimes blend with one another. The story held me, I was pulled all the way through even when it lagged and grew a little repetitive at times. It seemed that the themes (of religion, abuse, addiction, family expectation) had sort of worked themselves out before the plot was done so it feels the whole thing goes on longer than it needed to. The prose is easy and not overcomplicated which contributed most to my enjoyment. I did feel I was in London which is really scary and I'm glad to not actually be there.
