cried multiple times

While searching for George, Albert found himself. This story reminded me of Ove, Arthur Pepper & the movie Letters To Juliet with a Great Britain LGBTQ+ history thrown in.

I think the only reason I knocked a star off was because the narration didn't sit completely right with me. Parts of it ended up feeling a little stiff and detached.

Other than that, I loved it. It's essentially about this old postman who comes back to life and finds his community and it's so beautiful!! There's something endearing about every character in their own little way. I think a lot of them were written to be deliberately stereotypical while simultaneously defying the stereotypes, so that's probably something you might want to keep an eye out for. The story is adorable. There's something about how mundane it is that appeals to me.

Bottom line: I think we desperately deserve more coming-of-age stories with older characters.

I received a free copy of the audiobook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
☆☆☆☆
this book tells the story of albert, a postman so set in his routine that when he´s notified about
his inevitable retirement from the job he's had for the majority of his life, he starts to realize the lonely and unhappy life he´s been leading.
this is a story about lost love, acceptence and learning to live the life that trully make´s you happy.
also, i love the extra content at the end, where we can listen to interviews with man that lived through
similar situations to albert.
all togather an amazing read.

Bloomin’ ‘eck and hellfire!

Ehh....all the plot points were a little too obvious and convenient for me. To be honest I loved the real life interviews at the end more than I loved the story itself.

Thank you to NetGalley for this awesome book in exchange for an honest review. Not gonna lie I almost gave up on this one. But about half way through it really caught my attention. I am so glad I pushed through. It was great to see the journey that Albert went through. I also appreciate that we did not spend whole chapters on past or other timelines for the characters

Really sweet story of a man who has lived a small and sad life, who learns new things and finds himself, outside of comfort zones, in an unlikely community. He faces his reality, confronts his past, and grows as a person. I liked being along for the journey.

Very soft and beautiful. Complicated character with rich internal development, but conflict resolves easily. Just nice to read.
