This was such a sweet story! I loved it and read it quickly because I really wanted to know how Albert and George’s stories both ended. While it’s a slightly redundant story reminding me of many other books I’ve read, I loved how sweet Albert is as a character. He’s not mean, he’s not spiteful, he’s just immensely lonely and he’s been lonely for a long long time. The steps he takes to open himself up to those around him are courageous and sweet. I really loved him as a character and was rooting for him every step of the way.

Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this ALC in exchange for an honest review!

It took me a little bit to really get into this book, but by about 50% I was obsessed with Albert's journey! This is such a heartwarming story of someone who was so rigidly taught to hate such an essential part of himself, that he didn't let anyone know him at all. The life Albert was living felt so lonely and cold, and it was really difficult to read about. But, when Albert finds his muse and starts living for his friends and his dream, I was hooked! I loved this inspirational story featuring an older LGBT main character, and so highly recommend it to everyone!

Literally crying!

I loved this book so much actually and it was so so so sweet. Queer elders always make me cry and albert was so sweet :,)

I would highly recommend it!!!!

What a wonderful story ! An elder who finds himself after years being hidden away. It's so nice to find a story that tells a perspective not often found in gay literature. I also liked the mystery of finding his special someone.

Absolutely delightful book, I recommend to anyone queer or not, I think we can all relate to Albert. One of my favourite books this year

There's something so special about this one. Getting some history with this story was so valuable. The Q&A at the end was priceless.

As someone who tries to avoid letting people in, it really has made me pause and look at myself and ask the question, why do I work so hard to fly under the radar? What amazingness have I cut myself off from as a result?

I've added it to my favorite shelf. I'm looking forward to the next time I listen.

I also felt Simon Vance really brought Albert and his world to life beautifully.

++++++++++

ALSO, how was this book I was listening to when my AMAZING stepsisters converged on my home to remember their father who passed here...I say I got the best sisters because they lost their dad, but they check in with me.

Really easy to read and kept me interested in finding out more. Loved the characters and their story was sad and happy at the same time especially as you know this happened to many queer people
